I have some questions about the various types of armor such as the Corellian Huntsuit and Powersuit series, and the Smasher Armor type. How do these types of armor increase the strength and related skills of a character since they aren't power armor in the same respects as Spacetrooper armor and the
various powered armor. Are they more mechanically/hydraulically based, or are they based on energy cells which need recharging? Also, can these types of armors succeptible to ion blasts like any powered stuff? |

I don't have the books on me, but I think it says that Smasher Armour has small servos to increase strength.
Powersuits are fully enclosed and have the electonics/hydraulics ect
Can't remember about the huntsuits. _________________ "I take orders from just one person: Me!"

As far as i remember, any powersuit is affected by ion blasts.... which is why people hate me, when they see the enemy start reading DEMP grenades... _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

Probably the only way to keep any such suit from suffering from ion blasts would be to have either a completely shielded power supply or a completely shielded backup supply, though either would tremendously increase the weight and most likely cut your move. But that's just supposition on my part; I don't have stats for them to know for sure. |

They are all powered armor, but one is Powered Space Suits, the other is like armored servo enhancers.
Yes, they all work on the same servo and/or hydraulic principles.
Yes, ion blasts, EMP, shut them down. _________________ My backpack has jets!

Because I'm curious, WOULD there be a way of shielding a powersuit's power supply against EMP or ion blasts? (At least, a way that would not be non cost-effective?) |

All the armors you described are Powersuits.
One thing that's a bit unclear to me, is that these suits use the Powersuit Operation skill. But when would you roll that? _________________ "He's Gry Sarth, of course he has the stats for them." |

We ruled that powersuit operation roll are only needed if wearing the armor changes the move value.
Then the roll is only used instead of the running skill. It may also be used instead of dodge. |

Any-time when it is your skill in operating the suit that matters most. _________________ My backpack has jets!

Doubtful, otherwise those who routinely wear them would have those ion shields incorporated.. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

Not if they didn't know such tech existed... I'm even asking if there's any obscure references- either something "from the Rim Territories" or simply created in someone's own group. But you're right- anyone who COULD get it WOULD, and those who originally engineered it would either be very rich, very dead, or both. |

One way to stop an ion blast is to carry something like a towar shield, giving 100% coverage from the Ion Blast... anything outside or to the side of the gigantic shield could still be hit and affected by the ion blast.
That's a long way of saying... just dont get hit. _________________ My backpack has jets!

Boomer has hit the nail on the head: If you don't want to suffer ion damage, don't get hit by an ion blast!
If you do, though, it sucks to be you... |

I think the difference between the Space Trooper type power suite and the power armors listed here is the method of control. The spacetrooper armor is much more complex, and uses additional control mechanism (waldos, sticks, etc) to activate and control various suite features, where as these suites are fitted to the wearer, with the wearer's movements directly controlling the servos/mechanisms, or what is refered to in many sci-fi circles as Slave-Controlled. That might be why there is not the need for Power Suite operation referenced under the descriptions. _________________ "There's a set way to gain new Force Points and it represents a very nice system, where you're rewarded for heroism, not for being a poor conductor to electricity." ~Jachra |
