Sure... but someone, somewhere is going to want to do it for real. And even if you meant it as a joke, it's a legitimate question. I mean, Kyp Durron would launch proton torpedoes (or dump them unlaunched into space) then use TK to guide them or adjust their trajectory to compensate for maneuvers the target would make. No reason that can't be done on a larger scale...
Although I would say that the closer the asteroid gets to the planet, the harder the roll because it's going to be affected more and more by the planet's gravity. |

It seems my long post I wrote didn't get posted in response. Anyways, the short version is TK really works against three things: mass, velocity, and weight / gravity. In the case of the asteroid, you're not pushing against it's velocity, you're nudging it's side to push it in a new direction. In the case of weight - it has none, but does have it's own gravity because of mass. Mass is the big one. My point though is while I wouldn't make the difficulty 0, I wouldn't go for 50+ either. _________________ Luke, I am your father.

In the description of TK, Mass is not taken into account. And going with velocity, while you only have +5 to difficulty to affect the asteroid's cours for a gentle manuver, slight turn, it is still travelling at around mach 20, that's 14,000 mph. How fast is that, what is the difficulty to grab that? _________________ My backpack has jets!

Velocity is relative, so if the asteroid is moving at 20000kph (we are talking about asteroids, yes?) and the Jedi's ship is moving the same speed along side it, the asteroid wouldn't appear to move.
And I think don't think in the books they really made a provision for telekenisis in 0G. Because it has no weight in space, it's easy to get the asteroid to move. But because asteroids are so big, it takes a lot of force to get it going. So it all really depends on how long the PCs have to push the asteroid, or how hard they can push it. |

Plus, they might be able to combine a Jedi's TK abilities with a ship's tractor beam, which would make it that much easier.
But speaking of the tractor beam, when a ship is tractored, there's still a chance it might break free. Velocities and trajectories have to play some part. If it takes a successful roll to tractor a ship in 0G, even though it has no "weight" per se, then it would also take a successful roll of TK. We're just trying to pin down what exactly it would take to accomplish this, even though Volar meant it as a joke... |

I think everyone is seeing the problem I have with this...
Make weight and desired affect have the only limits, assume weight means mass in 1g wether or not any g is present. _________________ My backpack has jets!

Yes. Weight is the force on an object due to gravity, which is based on the objects mass. It just happens that weight and gravity have the same value in 1G.
And be careful Boomer. g stands for grams, which is a measure of mass. G is a measure of gravity. |

Well, I'm a physics major, so I get in trouble if I don't remember.
I think the best term would be inertia and momentum. Inertia is an objects resistance to change in velocity, which is like as it's mass.
We're is space, so whoever uses the word weight incorrectly gets slapped with a trout.
Momentum is also related to inertia, and is measured as velocity x mass. Remeber velocity also includes DIRECTION.

You forgot to mention that mass also determines the force of gravity matter exerts on other matter.
