I believe it just started out as something GL didn't bother to come up with. He created Yoda, he's wise and powerful. That's enough. But then he became this cultural icon, and people wanted to know more about him, and started asking all this questions for which GL didn't have an answer. And thus the mistery was created. GL probably realised it was cooler to keep it a mistery than to just publish in some book that Yoda is a Flegmabolianian from the planet Ixurr IV. There's no real fun in that. Yoda is of a misteryous race, from an unknown world. And these are facts we'll NEVER know. Because GL himself doesn't know, and isn't in the least interested in coming up with it.
So if you really want a name. Call them Whills, which seems to be the fanboy replacement name. _________________ "He's Gry Sarth, of course he has the stats for them." |

Yeah, it's just COOLER to have some mystery race that you only ever see one or two of them in the whole series. Plus, it's a heck of a lot EASIER if you don't ever explain him. Less crap you have to think up. |

Lifespan is typically proportional to a ratio of organ capacity to size. Some of the races in star wars have longer life spans because they have redundant systems (like two hearts). While I still agree his race as a whole is long lived, in yoda's case, he was also using the force, and strong light side force users have been able to prolong their life span just as dark siders often burn through their body quickly; in a way that if not fatal is often debilitating. _________________ Luke, I am your father.
That's impossible!
And Leia is your sister!
That's improbable?
And the Empire will be destroyed by..EWOKS!
That's...highly unlikely.
The Force? Bacteria called midichlorians.
If you don’t take this seriously I'm out. |

Also, I think in part the fact that they not only share such an attunement to the light side of the Force, but they also live right. (Of course this ignores the fact that they're constantly throwing themselves in the face of danger and whatnot...) I mean they eat right, they're CONSTANTLY training, and they take care of their bodies. Add that to their connection to the Force (which by the way includes the ability to HEAL onesself...) and you get a much longer-lived individual than you'd otherwise have. |
