I was just looking at some of the Npc stats available here and it says the Royal Guard have Dex 5D. Is that just a typo ? _________________ oops - i didnt mean to make it go off |

Nope. Most people consider that cause of genetic engineering or the fact that pcs (therefore it should also apply to npcs) can improve their attributes above racial max. It is just costly (40 cp per pip for a 4d attrib), and time consuming. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

But Royal Guard uswed to be stormies. So that would be a starting Dex of either 2D or 3D (character equiavalent). That would take awhile. Hmmm... can you imagine the adventures that they must have had to get that experienced. _________________ oops - i didnt mean to make it go off |

2D/3D is the DEX of average stormies...
I have no doubt that some of them have 4D DEX. Maybe there is only one over a thousand (or million), but this is enough... |

Remember that Royal Guard are the elite of the elite of the elite. They're definitely going to be the equivalent (or better) of many to most player characters. The idea here is going to be that you don't want to run into them. However, if you do, you want to be in BIG numbers so you can concentrate attacks. Otherwise, you would follow the actions of wise old King Arthur:
"RUN AWAY!!! RUN AWAY!!!" |

They're also likely to be force-fed performance enhancing drugs, to boot.
This isn't the major leagues, after all. Not like they're going to be disqualified if they fail a drug test. |

Exactly. If the Emperor has no qualms about using dark Jedi as Grand Inquisitors, he'd certainly have no problems with using some steroid-junkie behemoths as his personal guard... |

Yup, the Royal Guard are the best of the best of the stormtrooper corps. Standing out so heavily amongst your average stormie, they are typically selected to be taken from the front lines and train on Yinchorr, where they must improve their skills and ablities well beyond what stormtroopers can do. The best of the best of the Royal Guard then go on to become Imperial Sovereign Protectors. In addition to further training that really makes their physical prowress a thing to behold, they also recieve basic training in the use of the Force. The best of the Sovereign Protectors would no doubt go on to join the ranks of the Dark Side Adepts. _________________ FLUFFY for President!!!!

Remember royal guards also cycle through all the other stormtrooper types as part of thier duty rotation, including stormcommandoes who have some good stats even by Pc standards. Heck on my players' "run away list" stormcommandoes rate just below Boba Fett. |

Stormcommandos aren't so tough. We took out a whole squad of them once.
Hit them with the Near Orbit.
Yes, we hit them with a Corellian Corvette. No, not their shuttle, them. Long story. Ask, and I'll tell in another forum. |

Some people think that way in our group, well until i started giving them Imperial Special forces Martial Arts (the same as the rebs get from Rules of Engagement). With their sneak and search being so good (7d each), it is imo realistic for them to have it. So pop the party with them using silent strike, instant wound, etc, and they then regain their nastyness... _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

Gar, the only time we didn't run in terror from them is when we physically hit them with a CORELLIAN CORVETTE.
That statement alone informs you that we did, indeed, fear them.
Another squad really messed up the Limo. |

Ok, man, I HAVE to hear about that. If you don't want to post it, just PM me. I'd LOVE to hear some of your tales about those guys. I'll swap stories with you about how we got a Jawa NPC in our group once... 8) |

If you read my first part of that comment, you would have seen it was related to OUR gaming group (sparks force 7) not you.... _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

If you need to do something as drastic and seemingly inefficient such as literally drop a few thousand tons of capital ship on somebody to stop a squad of them then I would put them under the tough colum. |
