Hi
I am working on ideas for a campaign set during the early years of the Old Republic. Various worlds in the Core Regions would have established the Republic. However most of the source material I have for Star Wars only seems to have the human worlds from the Core. What alien races from the Core would have had influence in the birth of the republic ? |

Duro is one of the big ones, and vastly underestimated in their importance.
Basic? Your speaking Duro.
Starships, Correilian enginerring? Duros is part of the Coreillian Sector and they are the major shipbuilders.
Travel, Duros navigational engineering to build space lanes.
Economy, duros trade and resourcing.
Communication? COMPNOR's hyperradios are the finest Duros products.
The list goes on and on of the early Duros contributions to the Old Republic. In conjunction with a few other races, of course. _________________ My backpack has jets!

Not to correct you, but basic is not Duro. They are two different languages. Basic is a combination of Duro, Corellian, and several other languages that were hashed together to form a "common language" from the early races, most from the core. I am sure there is a good deal of Duro in there considering their importance, but the language basic and Duro are different - I would expect them to have the same differences as Spanish spoken in spain and the Tex-Mex version spoken in the south texas area would have in a couple thousand years. They both have common roots but have broken apart and evolved from there...moving in two different directions. I'd expect you could catch key words here and there from a conversation of the other if you spoke only one; but there would also be similar sounding words that would confuse you and change what you think is being said. _________________ Luke, I am your father.

Yeah, Endwyn is right. The Duro language is just a big contributor to basic, they are not the same. _________________ My backpack has jets!

Thanx for the suggestions. I still feel that I need more aliens from the Core regions. So far all i've got is Duro and Caamasi. I believe that Neimoidians are an offshoot of the Duro race so I may not use them. And Givin and Twi'lek aren't from anywhere near the Core. I might use some from the Colonies Region which will give me Caridans and Arkanians. |

Just also remember how vastly different the cultures are on the human worlds in the core. _________________ Luke, I am your father.

The maps provided in various websites contain a lot of useful information regarding the core worlds, as does the map contained in the D20 book "Coruscant and the core worlds".
Wow, it seems these Old Republic campaigns are becoming quite popular _________________ "There's a set way to gain new Force Points and it represents a very nice system, where you're rewarded for heroism, not for being a poor conductor to electricity." ~Jachra |
