I have been thinking about this for a while now. The amount of stuff I have created and turned out over the last 15+ years and specifically over the last 2+ years and essentially little or no feedback leads I feel as though 1. The community has moved on, it happens and 2. No one gives a sh|t. If I sound bitter you bet I am. I am sure whill can understand. Its hard to dump time and creative energy being a cheerleader and not have much in return.

I have not made the final decision but I think I am comfortable with moving on. Probably going to nuke the Star Wars D6 Discord server, the G+ archive and my personal Google+ drive Star Wars Archive.

Not sure what I am going to do with my complete and nearly completed projects yet. Pisses me off to even thinking about passing them off to others. I have been BEGGING for 5+ years for editors and layout people. I have had offers, shared the files only for every single one fail to produce anything. Perhaps they had good intentions but it sure feels like they got a sourcebook and just ran off with it.

Anyway. Thanks for letting me vent.

I sympathize. Ultimately my work serves my campaign and if anyone else gains benefit outside of my gaming group all the better.

The science fiction genre is dying. I spoke with my kids about this at length yesterday at Sunday lunch. Young people, in general, prefer fantasy was the opinion/sentiment of my kids.

The leadership of LFL has done a great deal of damage by segmenting a nation of fans who were very unified prior to the prequels. The sequels have divided us even further. We have become niche fans in our own franchise. Sadly I see no repair to the problem save for new guards of the franchise taking over and performing a literal miracle of storytelling to reunite the fan base.

I'm sorry to hear this. I'm just starting to get back into regular gaming. That's why I started posting again and tossing out my creations/ideas. I even recently got a print copy of REUP. I'm not where I want to be yet because I still have a lot of stress and responsibilities to handle first. I appreciate your work, even if I don't know the source material. Ask Frank, I even started a project for him a bit back and life happened. (Remember that I-Beam starfighter?) I sadly missed all the G+ days and now I'm finding scraps. I try to incorporate fan material when I can in my games because I want to show that D6 is still thriving. But my new regular games don't start until next month and like I said, I'm still figuring out my updated life situation.

I really hope you don't walk away. You've made an impact and like most things, there are ebbs and flows in the Star Wars D6 community. Please try to ride it out.

I know you've been a little frustrated lately with your work not being appreciated. But even though people have been coming to these forums, not everyone's looking for the same thing. Maybe they're looking for certain things, focused on certain eras of play, or even certain continuities. Also, given how things are IRL these days, perhaps they're not able to fully appreciate your posts and the time and effort you put into them.

In any event, maybe you should take a break for a little bit. Let your frustration cool down before making any hasty decision.

Peace.

Yes, I still have the artwork.

shootingwomprats: there are so many camps, it’s impossible to make them all happy. For example, my campaign is run like it’s the evening of May 18, 1999, the night before the Phantom Menace was released in the theaters. Every source that comes after that I simply ignore. My players would kill me otherwise because they want filtered content. And if you show me 100 game masters I’ll show you 101 opinions on what they will include and exclude from their campaigns. This makes it increasingly difficult to produce content.

We’re also fighting the factor of legitimacy. None of us are licensed to produce products for the role-playing game or for the Star Wars franchise in general. There are simply some people who will not use fan material even if they come to this forum and the discord for interpretation and advice on playing the game. What we are doing is a labor of love and is a passion project, we can never assume wide acceptance although I do make a point on this forum to consider configuring home brew materials to be as easy to integrate and adopt by other game masters.

Went through this post REUP. The community (which I agree is nothing like it was 10 or 20 years ago) has largely fractured. I was so frustrated (with no one specifically), I nuked the REUP masters and made Classic Adventures (because it was rebellious back then to go 1st edition??? IDK). Then I quit. call it burnout, call it disillusionment with the community... Frustration reading the comments from people with nothing at stake...

I have to agree with you... the community that "cares" and "understands" is small indeed. There isn't the energy there was 10-15 years ago.

Take a break... if your brain is screaming burnout... step away... you can always re-engage or not later.

Here is some unsolicited advice... don't delete any files... It took 10 years to come back and "remaster" 2E R&E and I wish I had my old REUP files. I definatel regret deleting the drive. It WAS cathartic at the time, but in the long run bad move.

Hope you find the head space you need.

I know you and I have spoken previously about how frustrating it is to put time and effort into something and not get any feedback. I've run into this myself and have occasionally let frustration boil over into my actual posts, so I understand where you're coming from.

i can't speak for everyone, but for me, I have to accept that people are into what they are into, and just because you think something is awesome doesn't mean everyone else is going to be equally enthused. You have to learn to create for the joy that you personally find in creating, and not depend on others for your satisfaction.

I really hope you don't quit, though. You're one of the fandom's most prolific creators. and your loss would be felt even if you don't see it.

This is my mantra here.

Don, I sympathize. As the site's admin, I get little to no acknowledgement to the existence of my posts. The new user registrations keep coming even though most of them never post. A lot of effort is made to weed out the obvious bot registrants in the process. Dealing with the website (and occasionally some of the users here) takes time away from actually playing the game. But I try not to get too 'woe is me' about anything in life.

Seeing other people using this site and playing this game used to give me added joy on top of playing this game. It used to make me feel I was really contributing something tangible to the larger SWD6 gaming community. This year I've caught myself contemplating what had previously been unthinkable: Just letting all this go. Is it really worth it? We're long overdue for an upgrade that I do not feel comfortable doing on my own, and no php experts have offered to help. Web spiders are crawling all over the damn place and using server resources, effecting everyone's experience.

When the original admin was done, I stepped in to save the Rancor Pit from annihilation. If I let the Pit go, it will effect other people, even though many of these people do not show me any appreciation. Don, your laments about not getting feedback are nothing new, but I find that I am quite disturbed to read that you might just destroy resources that can much more easily just be handed over to someone else. The G+ Google drive is your personal drive? I didn't know that. If that is attached to your personal email, I understand not leaving it there, but will you let someone create a new drive and copy it before "nuking" it? And can't you just assign someone else to be the admin of the Discord group and just walk away peacefully, leaving it for others? I'm no expert in Discord, but that is the way the Facebook group was handled. The original two guys walked away from it but created two new admins. Nuking everything so nothing is left for others sounds like spite, and that would be a sh!tty legacy to leave behind.

What I think would give your Rancor Pit posts more traction is organization. You are extremely prolific, but it is a chaotic barrage of single posts. I'd love to see you make a master post linking to everything you have made, like Charles' stat index. I will be very happy to sticky it to the top of a forum, and then everyone will see the massive wealth of material you have created, all in one place. Of course, fan interests vary and some posts still won't get any individual responses, but if they are all collected in a single place, more people will just dive into the mass of material and eventually find something they want to give feedback on, or even ask a question about. And if you still want to quit after doing this, you'd be leaving an organized framework for all your content behind for those who still might find use for it after you're gone.

Thanks for your consideration.

THIS, above all else. If you feel like your efforts are going unrewarded, no need to all out quit - just put it aside for a while. I've had/still have various hobbies/interests over the years that I keep rotating back to as the mood and nostalgia for it hit me. I also have a home business I run that's been struggling between being busy with my regular day job and the competition from 3D printing, but I keep at it because I enjoy it.

Don't nuke your stuff, just put it aside. Keep it filed somewhere for future reference when your head and heart get the urge again.
