I wasn't sure where to post this, so I'm putting it here. I looked at the metrics at the bottom of the screen. It says we have 452 users logged in, of which I am one. That means we have 451 new users logged in right now.
Surely, that is cause for celebration. _________________ The Force cannot be defined. It can, however, be felt. Communicated with. Even called to action to aid you. BUT. Not quite. At the bottom of the index page, the total users online are a combination of users logged in to the Forums and lurkers (visitors to the forum who are not logged in).
In the breakdown, "Registered" and "Hidden" users are both logged in. "Hidden" are those logged in that have their profile's "Hide your online status" setting set to Yes, so "Registered" are those logged in that have that setting set to No.
The "Guests" are the lurkers visiting the forum who are not logged in. They are not all necessarily new visitors (although some of them undoubtedly are). They could be anyone, from people who do not even have a Rancor Pit account to long-time members who are just was reading the forum without logging in.

Yes and no. It is a clear sign that there is still a lot of interest in this old game, yes.
Unfortunately a lot of users visiting the site (logged in or not) strain the resources of the server this site is on and cause interruptions. That is the reason that I had to update the site so that only this top forum is accessible unless logged in. Before that, we typically had over 1,000 lurkers ("guests") visiting the site any given time. I suspect the Guests number includes search engine bot-spiders crawling around to keep search engine results up-to-date, so they have less to crawl around on now.
But plenty of the Guests are real lurkers who really love this game, and with the new restriction on lurking, registration requests have increased quite a bit for users that only read the forum and never participate in discussions, which means more work for me behind the scenes that never shows on the Forum. _________________ *

Well then, I'm glad to hear that requests for accounts has gone up. Hopefully it will equate to more active interaction. _________________ The Force cannot be defined. It can, however, be felt.
