One of the games I was really wanting to run, is a Tatooine based game, where the players are all employed by a Tatooine Droid smuggler, and casino owner.
The premise isn't to be criminals per se, although the group will essentially be the go to men, (and women), of a local crime lord. so the basic group would be soldiers/bounty hunters/smugglers/slicers, etc.
Adventures would not be about who has the most cash, or the most hits(assasinations), but rather the adventures that could, and would happen to a group involved in possible illegal, or grey areas of smuggling/body guard work.
I don't want to have the adventures written in stone, but the goal is not to be evil, but rather an average day for a Tatooine citizen who doesn't want to get off Tatooine as soon as possible.
Any possible ideas for a detail that may be fun to play up? Like what kind of things would you like to see living on Tatooine, working for a possible rival to Jabba the Hutt? _________________ Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom. Psalm 145:3 |

A Rival to Jabba would not last long on Tatooine. He was effectively the uncaring lord of that planet for centuries.
But yeah, anyone stuck on that planet would best stay out of Jabbas way entirely, or be under him in some way. I'd say a group of desert mercs, treasure finders, bounty hunters, smugglers, would all indeed find a comfortable home on Tatooine.
Some upstart Twi'Lek might make a good casino owner. _________________ My backpack has jets!

Jabba likely had a few rivals, some were more obvious than others. I mean after all, the planet is full of smugglers, and sellers, Jabba may likely put out a hit on those who are simply collecting too much of his "potential" wealth. _________________ Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom. Very true. He wanted to rid himself of Lady Valarian, the afore mentioned female Whipid, because she was cutting in on his turf. But rather than put a hit out on her, he tried harrassing her through both his minions and legal means so she'd leave. _________________ FLUFFY for President!!!!

Never said there would never be a rival. Just that they wouldn't last long. _________________ My backpack has jets!

In my gaming group we play on Tatooine.
The players are working for a cantina owner and spice seller called Popo Kork ( ). They do all kinds of jobs for him, handling spice trades, fighting competition and guarding the cantina.
Popo Korks boss is a mystic figure known as Slep Gutmust or just "The mouth". They have never seen him (the players that is) because he lives ina spaceship that constantly (or often) changes system and his scehdule is a well guarded secret.
Jabba cannot stop Slep Gutmusts work on Tatooine if he does not know it excists and so far he has not discovered that spice money leave Tatooine.
We have been playing 13 times and I think it might be time for the players to move up in the ranks. _________________ All stats 2D, except: brawling parry: versus boxing 2D+2, melee combat: swords 3D, melee parry: swords 2D+2, languages: english 2D+1, scolar: history 3D, scolar: social studies 2D+1, brawling: boxing 2D+2, computer programming/repair 2D+1. |

You could run a number of characters in this setting; you could have someone working for Lady Valarian- either solely at her hotel/casino, or possibly assigned to infiltrate Jabba's palace and spy on him. You could have someone working directly for Jabba; here you'd have to keep in mind that Jabba is the PINNACLE of paranoia. He has many of his employees working to ferret out plots against him; many of these beings have plots of their own that they're trying to carry out against him, while supposedly being loyal to him. Lady Valarian has agents in his court, and some of these are known to Jabba, but they're all suspected because of his nature. New recruits to his employ are regularly approached by no fewer than fifteen or sixteen individuals, all trying to recruit the newcomer to whatever nefarious plots are afoot. So you could have MUCH fun in that complicated world.
You could have your own cantina, which would spawn adventures all their own.
It just depends on what kind of flavor you want to go for. The possibilities abound! |

One interesting twist you could do is to create a group of significant NPC "thugs" (bounty hunters, smugglers, mercenaries, slicers, retainer, etc created using PC creation rules in roughly equal number to the PCs) to act as Jabba's thugs always cutting in on the players. Since Jabba doesn't like competition, they could have frequent run ins with these guys. Shipments being hijacked or stolen, VIPs being kidnapped or ransomed, or assassinated, etc. And of course, these main thugs would have their hired muscle (regular stock NPCs the players would have to fight or deal with).
Then there's the Security forces. Perhaps a particular investigator takes an interest in things (another GMPC type).
Sounds fun. _________________ "There's a set way to gain new Force Points and it represents a very nice system, where you're rewarded for heroism, not for being a poor conductor to electricity." ~Jachra |

And yet another twist for Kage's suggestion: If your created group DOESN'T work for Lady Valarian, you could also create a significant (but perhaps not QUITE as significant) group of NPC "thugs" who work for her. These individuals might be sent to either further hamper the PC group, or they might even be sent occasionally to provide some kind of asssistance, following the whole "Enemy of my enemy" concept. She also might be constantly trying to recruit this group into her organization, which would provide a good deal more storyline for you to work with. |

I ran a similar campaign a while back on Tatooine where the PCs worked for a mobster who owned a casino, cantina, and smuggled spice. He was a Weequay named Cobalt who i based off Marellus Wallace from Pulp Fiction. We had a number of adventures based off Pulp Fiction and other crime movies including the time Cobalt had a shock boxing match at the casino and put in the fix but the shock boxer who was supposed to throw the match won and went on the run, the PCs were sent after him. Another time an employee stole a mysterious case and the PCs had to find them. Another time Cobalt had them rob a fire gem shipment being held at a jewelry store but the security forces were waiting for them and a firefight ensued, as it turns out the Sec forces had placed an undercover officer in the group and the PCs had to figure out who it was. There are a lot of possibilites to go from. This campaign ended when Cobalt and several PCs were killed during a bloody gang war with Jaba and the two surviving characters retired to Naboo. |
