After seeing Superman, I realized that I had never finished my DC rewatch, so I rewatched the last film, Blue Beetle, to complete the rewatch. I'm never going to watch Black Adam again, and I'll probably only watch the action scenes of Wonder Woman 1984.
As for the rest, it will probably be a long time before I rewatch any of them. And next time, I will probably only watch the first four on the above list, Aquaman, and Shazam (my six faves of these films).

Thanks for the heads up. I was very cautious about seeing this in the theater. I'm waiting for more (detailed) reviews before I commit. |
Did you ever see it? I hope you weren't waiting for a more detailed review from me. I do not enjoy being negative, and I don't care enough about this new DC franchise, so I would not enjoy writing that.
Next year will see the release of a Supergirl movie and Clayface, a body horror film based on the Batman villain. (I'll probably see Supergirl in the theater.) In 2027, the sequel to Superman will be released.

I ended up seeing it on Vudu/Fandango last month.
I was not impressed. It was too busy, much like jumping into a 6-episode mini-series at episode 3. My wife really didn't like 'millennial non-masculine superman' (her words), and neither of us liked 'hyper-emotional' Lex. Overall - Too much Guardians of the Galaxy, not enough Superman.
Yes, it felt like a comic book, but I've come to feel that that isn't necessarily a good thing for a movie.

Have you seen it? Or are you just prejudging it? Everyone has their own sense of humor, and I feel it is impossible to know if a movie's humor fits the movie or not without seeing the movie.

Yeah, in medias res worked for ANH and other films, but not this one. I will add to your analogy add that watching this 'Episode 3' did not at all make feel like I wanted to watch any more episodes (taking place before or after).

Yeah, this portrayal of Lex didn't do anything for me either.

Agreed. This is what I expected, but I tried to go into it with an open mind and give Gunn a chance to do Superman justice.

That could mean a lot of things, but here you seemed to be contrasting Superman to GotG, which would mean you are saying that Superman is inherently "not-GotG". I'm ok with different versions/tones for Superman co-existing. I enjoyed the darker Snyder/Cavill Superman, but I also have a soft spot in my heart for the Donner/Reeves Superman of the '78 movie (probably largely fueled by nostalgia and the Williams score). But then again a lot of people seem to forget that movie does get pretty dark when Lois dies and Superman's reaction is intense.
Or are you just saying GotG focuses on cast of characters and this Superman does not have enough screen time because of there being too many characters?

I don't think I agree with this. Her criticism seems like unnecessary ageism. And I didn't really have a problem with this version of the Superman character himself. (There have been many extremely varied takes on the Superman character since 1938.) I feel it's just that the movie built around this Superman fell flat.

This! So much this!! Not everything in comics works for movies.
Since the rise of the modern superhero film genre, I've seen a lot of fanboys throwing around 'comic-book accuracy' criticisms of films, and it's really silly. Cinema is an extremely different art form than comic books. Live action superheroes are merely inspired by comic books. It is impossible (and unnecessary) for movies to be 'comic-book accurate'.
And the red trunks look stupid. Even in comic books, but even more so in live action. There, I said it.
