The Monolith of Eternity
"A timeless vergence in the Force, a sentient gateway beyond causality."
The Monolith of Eternity is a mystical, sentient Force vergence—an ancient phenomenon existing outside linear time, where echoes of all events, past and future, ripple across the cosmic weave. It manifests as an ethereal archway of fractured starlight, suspended in a void of shimmering silence. Through its veil, windows into moments across history flicker and shift. The Threshold is akin to the World Between Worlds, but with a conscious will. It is a liminal being-place, blurring the line between entity and structure.
Legends whisper that the Monolith predates the Jedi and Sith, perhaps crafted by a forgotten proto-Force tradition—one that understood the Force not as light or dark, but as a resonance of all moments. The arch pulses with memory and destiny, shaped by the collective will of those who have walked the Force.
Some mystics say it is a natural evolution of a Force vergence grown sentient over eons; others believe it was built by the Architects, ancient beings who glimpsed eternity.
Accessing the Threshold: The Threshold only appears to Force-sensitives at critical junctures, or near places of immense temporal or spiritual trauma. A Force Power check (Heroic 35+) is required to perceive it without direct guidance. A Force-sensitive with knowledge of the World Between Worlds gains a +2D bonus to attempts to find or interact with it.
Using the Threshold: Once entered, a character may observe and potentially access past or future events through glowing gateways of light and sound. Each gateway leads to a specific moment in time and space, but stepping through risks altering history. A Force-user must succeed at a Control + Sense + Alter check (Very Difficult to Heroic) to open a passage—and the Threshold judges intent.
Sentience and Purpose: The Threshold speaks in echoes—fragments of voices, moments, and feelings from countless beings. It may refuse passage to those driven by selfishness, revenge, or imbalance. Those who misuse it may become "Unmoored", drifting from time and forgotten by the galaxy.
Create Gateway (Monolith of Eternity)
Control Difficulty: Heroic (30+)
Sense Difficulty: Heroic (30+)
Alter Difficulty: Heroic (30+)
Required Powers: Farseeing, receptive telepathy, projective telepathy
Time to Use: 1 hour
Effect: Allows a Force-sensitive to temporarily open a portal within the Threshold to a specific moment in time and space. The GM determines what is visible or accessible based on narrative impact. Altering events may create splinter realities or consequences that ripple across the Force.
Story Use:
This fusion creates a mythic element—a metaphysical location where time, morality, and destiny converge. It’s perfect for:
Time-travel story arcs
Lessons in the consequences of power
Exploring "what-if" scenarios
Foreshadowing future canon
Adventure Hooks:
A fallen Jedi seeks the Threshold to undo a tragedy—will the PCs stop or assist them?
A Sith artifact creates unstable echoes within the Threshold, threatening time itself.
A planet-wide vergence event causes multiple echoes of history to bleed into the present.
The PCs meet an alternate version of themselves—or a Force ghost altered by a decision that never was. _________________ Don Diestler
