One of my Player Characters is Pregnant. Yeah I the GM went there and so did my player.
Because I do not require female Characters to track their menstrual cycle, I had to figure out the average percentage chance of pregnancy at any given time. After some math: 5 standard 24 hour days (average maximum lifespan of male sperm inside a female) divided by 28 standard 24 hour days (average length of human female menstrual cycle).
5 / 28 ≈ .18 or 18%
Roll of 6 on 1D6 ≈ .1667 or 16.67% (close enough)
The Player Character did the act, I rolled a "6" on 1D and here we are discussing pregnancy in-game.
But wait there's more:
The father is force-sensitive so it was time to devise some house rules for something I never planned for in 29 years of playing Revised & Expanded.
Generating random GMCs/NPCs I roll 1D and if I score a 21+ (Very Difficult+) the Character is force-sensitive. If both parents were not force-sensitive, I would use this method.
With a single parent being force-sensitive, I need a number lower than 50%, with both parents force-sensitive there is a chance of a normal child (read: "The Crystal Star" by Vonda McIntyre for more info).
So I made a force-sensitivity pregnancy chart:
- Both parents normal: 21+ on 1D
- Force-sensitive father: 5+ on 1D
- Force-sensitive mother: 4+ on 1D
- Both force-sensitive parents: 2+ on 1D
- If the mother is force-sensitive: 16+ on 1D for twins (otherwise 21+ on 1D for twins)
- If twins, 2+ on 1D the twins are force-sensitive (check each child)
But wait there's more:
The mother is normal but the child in the womb is force-sensitive so I am ruling the Player character can exceed the 5 Force Point maximum during the duration of the pregnancy.
The role of the GM can be odd at times...

Did the Player WANT her character to be pregnant? How will she handle it while adventuring? How will YOU? IE as mentioned in some of the heir to the empire trilogy, being shot on stun, may have issues for the fetus.. What of other attacks? _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

Player, yes but their motivations are yet unknown. My GM style is objective uncaring relayer of what goes on in the galaxy. The care of the child will be the Player's and the Character's problem to resolve. The child has the potential of being injured or killed if the mother sustains damage. To the child, the mother acts as living armor. _________________ Star Wars Deckplans Alliance

Maybe you wanna talk to her offline, to find out more as to her decision making there... _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

Are the Player Character or the father character human or alien? Both the same, one of each? If one or the other is alien, you've got some wiggle room with pregnancy gestation time and whatever other abilities/strengths/weaknesses the alien race has. |

The player is a "he", the character is a "she". I will figure it out in-game. I like to be surprised too.

Both parents are human.
Ziz You remind me of what happened in the short story "Nightlily: The Lovers' Tale" written by Barbara Hambly from the novel "Tales from the Mos Eisley Cantina". Feltipern Trevagg, the Gotal had relations with M'iiyoom Onith, the H'nemthe. The story alludes to the possibility of the mating being viable and M'iiyoom Onith being at large and pregnant with a hybrid child. Scary stuff. _________________ Star Wars Deckplans Alliance

That first sentence quoted is one of the funniest things I have ever read here. Thanks, Frank. I needed that laugh. Has any GM every required character menstrual cycles to be tracked in this game? Did I really just type that?
Once the laughter subsided, my first thought is that there seems to be a big factor missing from your math. Woman can't just get pregnant "at any given time." Unless the child was conceived by midi-chlorians, the sperm have to get in there somehow for conception to have any change of happening. Was the PC visiting a fertility clinic? Do you require rolls to see if the character can find someone to do her? Does this system assume daily sex in an attempt to get pregnant? Or does it just assume an "average" sex life of a sexually active adult who doesn't bother with contraception?
What is your system for determining the daily odds of characters being constipated? How do you determine if a character likes the taste of new foods when they try them? _________________ *

The ONLY time i saw a DM have that question raised, was in one 'survival' setting game, where our characters got stranded in a desert like environ, and had to hunk it out on foot (after crashing), because he rightly felt that if any of the 3 females we had, were mensturating, that it would act like a lure for several animals.. Neither gal had any idea if they would or not, so it was rolled off.. 1-2 they were, 3-6 they were not.. ALl three rolled 4 or higher, so thankfully that was not a concern.. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

True but I have to keep track of local times on a dozen planets so I leave the fertility decision to the roll of the die. Playability vs. accuracy issue.

No, see above.

This character has a husband.

The couple are on the run, trying to lay low so I would estimate their romantic opportunities resemble the relationship between Han and Leia during the New Republic Novels.

Curious... I have a random occurrence in my "Encounters in Hyperspace" for getting sick on the food from the food processor in transit. That would be a Stamina or Strength roll. I might have players roll for digestive issues if they eat food on a planet they are visiting for the first time or in a rundown neighborhood where food inspectors are bribed or absent. Again a Stamina or Strength roll. _________________ Star Wars Deckplans Alliance

The ship’s doctor will give her some medications to mitigate the problem but if she gets separated from the doctor I would probably require a Moderate Stamina or Strength roll whichever is higher. I use stamina a lot. _________________ Star Wars Deckplans Alliance
