Interesting. That reminds me of a propulsion method created by David Weber in the Honorverse, where something called a Spider Drive used specially tuned tractor beams to grab onto the dimensional barrier between realspace and hyperspace. Since the barrier to a higher dimension would basically be coterminous with every point in normal 3D space, having “rudders” that latch onto their own dimensional point of contact would solve a lot of issues. I’ve already headcanoned subspace radio along similar lines, specifically that it “plucks” the aforementioned dimensional barrier, causing pulses to radiate out in all directions at effectively infinite velocity, with range limited by the strength of the “pluck”. I headcanoned some technobabble for it, making subspace a contraction of “Hyperwave Spatial Subduction Resonance Transceiver”.
Might well be worth considering how the S-Threads mentioned in Cracken’s Rebel Field Guide might function on a similar principle to S-Foils, as well. _________________ "No set of rules can cover every situation.
