In our last game, my players had an epic battle with a Dark Jedi aboard their starship. On a roll of a 1, I had the lightsaber go flying out of his hand, and it slid to a stop in an adjacent cargo hold. One PC decided to blast the lightsaber.

What sort of body strength do you think a lightsaber should have? The typical 2D of most hand weapons?

Since it's supposed to be hand made by the jedi wielding it, i'd give it 3d, IF Attuned.. 2d otherwise.

I would also go with a 3D for the Attuned and made by wielder lightsaber body strength.

i would also add pips accordingly with some of the lightsabers that are constructed with special and durable materials.

I would palaptine's electrum (coated?) lightsabers a +1 to body strength as an example

then I would go with size as well with a double and large slightsaber possibly be 4D and 3D respectively and shoto and the smaller lghtsabers 2D and 1D respectively

Unless it’s specifically hardened against damage, I’d stick to the 2D from the RAW. However, its small size provides an additional layer of protection, in that it’s a lot harder to hit. Under the RAW, you’d use the Called Shot rules; if you’re looking for a house rule alternative, a lightsaber would be Tiny-Scale (-4D) in my Scale System.

IIRC tiny is for things 10cm or under. Most light sabers seem to be around 7 to 10 inches in length.

Under my system, Tiny covers large hand-held objects, such as blaster pistols, data pads, and some tools. Smaller objects like comlinks, a deck of cards, data chips or hold-out blasters would be Minute-Scale (-6D).

For some reason, the mixed measurement systems in this post nerd-rages me.

If only we could keep measurements in the forum to the tried and true "Bigger than a Bread Box" standards.

I don't think Attunement would affect that...

Um, no. Electrum is an alloy of two of the softest, least durable metals, Gold & Silver, which as i recall are Hardness 3 on the Mohs scale.
Electrum is decorative, mainly used in jewelry/bling, & art objects.
Durasteel might be up to 3 or 4D, but if using Phrik or Beskar, 5D to 6D max.
Tungsten Carbide or Diamond for hardest real-world materials, or Bronzium for SW in-universe materials; look up any armor in SW to see what it's made of. There's no shortage of durable materials to choose from.
Lightsabers of any type are high-quality construction, so should have Body Str 2D minimum. Ancient/Archaic Lightsabers, proto-sabers & Light Foils might be more fragile at a mere 1D.

10 cm = 3 15/16in
7 in = 17.8 cm
10 in = 25.4 cm
12 in = ≈30.5 cm
20 in = 50.8 cm
24 in = ≈61.0 cm

i need to make some Lepi characters. It's Long Overdue.
Metallurgists, Scouts, Smugglers & Scoundrels, most definitely! Jedi, Dark Jedi, Inquisitors, & Bounty Hunters, Oh My!

General Xie's Corulag Fried Porg™ is a thing in my SWU!
