I wonder, why they didn't have Luis in this one!

Good point. I think the highlights of the first two were Luis' stories, with other people lip-synching to his tales. Laughing

Quote:
Secret Invasion (6 episodes) starts on Disney+ on June 21st.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (in theaters now) comes to D+ sometime in August.
Loki season 2 (6 episodes) starts on Disney+ on October 6th.
The Marvels comes to theaters November 10th.

I forgot to mention that we watched GotG 3 a while back. I was not wowed. It may have been slightly better than the second one, but I really don't care to watch either one of them again to really compare them.

We have one episode left of Secret Invasion. So far it is a meh-fest like most post-Endgame MCU products. As I understand it, it is required viewing for The Marvels (Captain Marvel sequel). Tickets are now on sale for The Marvels, but I haven't bought any yet because we haven't finished Secret Invasion yet.

Loki season 2 is on now but we won't start that until we finish Secret Invasion.

In other MCU news, the new Daredevil series was deemed by Kevin Feige to be of such poor quality that it was unreleasable, so it's writers and directors were fired and the show will be born again with rewrites and reshoots, which are delayed by the actor strike. Considering the quality of some of the stuff released, that is really saying something about how bad it was. I was cautiously optimistic for this series but my faith has been shaken.

I was really bummed to hear that Born Again was being scrapped (they're going to apparently try to keep some of what they filmed). Some reports say that it bore no resemblance to the Netflix DD series. It also was almost entirely a courtroom drama. The comic it's based on is absolutely brilliant, so I still have hopes that they will repair things.

I enjoyed Secret Invasion, though like many of the Disney + series, it started out great and wasn't quite as great by the end. Still very solid, IMO.

Loki S2 to me has only been 'meh'. Very slow and not much happening.

I'm very much looking forward to seeing The Marvels this weekend. Early reports from fans are that it is a lot of fun.

We saw The Mehvels and it was very mediocre, and downright silly at times, which seems to have become the standard for Marvel these days.

What was the relationship of the Skrulls in Secret Invasion to the ones here? The only way Secret Invasion seemed to be required viewing for this movie was to know why Telos wasn't there, but that wasn't even hinted at. And Fury seemed overly defensive of Carol after dealing with the aftermath of her utter failure to find a home for the displaced Skrulls for almost 30 years, unless the Skrulls in this movie were the Skrulls in the series and that was their new home in this film. It seems the film was written/edited to have no reference to the series at all, a particularly odd choice since the movie had two other TV series characters.

Here are my updated brief reactions to MehCU Phase 4 and 5 so far

MOVIES
Black Widow – good
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings – ok
Eternals – bad, near the bottom of MCU's barrel
Spider-Man: No Way Home – good
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness – cool concepts wasted on a horror movie, near the bottom of MCU's barrel
Thor: Love and Thunder – ok
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever – meh
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania – ok
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 – bad, the bottom of MCU's barrel or near it
The Mehvels – meh

DISNEY+
WandaVision – first three episodes are entirely skippable – the rest were silly, weird, boring, and meh, until the final episode which was good.
Falcon and the Winter Soldier – good
Loki Season 1 – neat concept but premise is fundamentally flawed, last episode is boring and anti-climactic
What If? Season 1 – first episode is good, the rest are meh
Hawkeye – ok
Moon Knight – very interesting concepts and but overall meh show
Ms. Marvel – meh
I Am Groot - meh
Werewolf by Night – meh
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law – got stupider as it went on, final episode was one of the worst things to ever come out with the MCU label.
The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special – silly
Secret Invasion – meh
Loki Season 2 – meh

We finally finished Loki season 2. It felt like they just put season 1 in a blender, and the outcome is very vague. It didn't at all make me care. Yet another disappointing MCU project.

What If? season 2 begins December 22nd on Disney+. So far, the only MCU TV series slated for 2024 are Echo (Hawkeye antagonist) and Agatha (WandaVision antagonist). The only MCU film slated for next year is Deadpool 3. I am not at all excited about any of these.

It is clear the M in MCU now stands for Meh. I'll probably not post any more new reactions until I have seen What If? season 2 and all three of next year's projects, unless I love any of them.

On one memetic post of top 10 actors to replace Jonathan Majors as Kang the number 1 spot was a photo of Robert Downy Jr in his makeup from Tropic Thunder.

Listening to some pod casts, about the cast list for the upcoming Fantastic four, and hearing that the big bads for this will be silver surfer and Galactus. And the possibility of the main bad from James bond film Skyfall, Javier Bardem for the voice of Galactus..

So who DO YOU think should be Silver surfer if they do this??

They already did those (and Doom) in the pre-MCU F4 films. Don't they have any other villains they can fight instead of shooting the load on the big ones right away?

There have been rumblings that Doctor Doom (arguably Marvel's biggest bad) will be brought into the MCU now, and numerous articles have suggested that they already intended to do this before Majors' legal problems.

Deadpool & Wolverine, the only MCU film being released this year, is out in theaters now. Please wait a few weeks before discussing spoilers anywhere on the Pit. I may not even see the movie in the theater at all as I was not a fan of the Fox X-movies, but that would be my choice and I am not worried about being spoiled for this movie if I haven't seen it by the time it is discussed here.

Big news at Comic Con 2024 is that they are officially moving away from Kang being the big bad and moving forward with Doctor Doom.

I don't know if they intended on doing this before the Kang actor's arrest, but they definitely started planning for it after that, pending the verdict. Within days of the guilty verdict, Marvel Studios officially announced the Kang actor's contract was terminated and he would not appear in any further productions. What the recent news has still not made clear is whether the Kang character would still appear in a smaller role played by a recasted actor or not.

The biggest news is that Robert Downey Jr. will play Doctor Doom. So it would seem that the MCU version of Doctor Doom is likely an alternate-universe version of Tony Stark. I guess that doesn't seem totally inappropriate as Doctor Doom was almost always an armored character. The Russo brothers (Winter Soldier, Civil War, Infinity War, and Endgame) will return as directors for the next two Avengers films.

Upcoming MCU Films at a Glance

Captain America: Brave New World (2025, see the first trailer)
Thunderbolts* (2025, a "Suicide Squad-type" team film featuring several supporting MCU characters)
The Fantastic Four: First Steps (2025, starring Pedro Pascal of The Mandalorian fame as Mister Fantastic)
Blade (2025)
Avengers: Doomsday (2026)
Avengers: Secret Wars (2027)

Armor Wars (featuring James Rhodes, War Machine)
Untitled Spider-Man sequel
Untitled Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings sequel
Untitled X-Men film

I find that I am still not excited about the MCU.
