I’m wondering why KDY would put resources into this when Secutors exist, and are faster, and just as tough and just as well armed… _________________ "No set of rules can cover every situation. We may never know…
My suspicion is, the writers weren't as informed as they should have been/thought they were, so we get an interesting but half-baked idea, rather than a complete & well thought-out backstory, so i'm probably gonna revise & expand this into something that makes more sense.
I am open to suggestions.
Both for the fluff & which ships' weapons stats i should use.
Edit: Lore-wise, we do get the Maelstrom-class in 22 BBY & the Secutor-class battlecarrier in 19 BBY. So i figure both ships were under development when the Clone Wars began, Maelstrom gets rushed into production despite issues that bogged down R&D, while the Secutor gets 3 years more development to sort out issues, resulting in a superior vessel overall.
I am also gonna redo the Secutor's carrying capacity, bc a "Bigger Better Venator" that can only carry a fraction of what the Venator can is a special kind of stupid, it seriously bothers me... _________________ Facing all that you fear will free you from yourself.

I need help. I can't find a post where the upper limits for speed for the Super Big Ships was discussed. I thought it was this post, but it isn't. I only recall that the upper limits for a "Space 7 fleet" being the ships in the 2,000-2,500 meters long range. Everything bigger than that has to be slower.

The Maelstrom-class Battle Cruiser & the Secutor-class Star Destroyer are competing visions of a bigger & better Venator, yet they respectively carry at most 120 & 144 starfighters...
The Venator-class Star Destroyer has either 420, 432 or 612 starfighters (https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Venator-class_Star_Destroyer)

I believe the 432 was the count given in various RotS books.
Anywho, the Venator has a length of 1,137 meters, roughly 1/2 the length of the Secutor's 2,200 meters.
If we double the Length we double the Volume (or the Capacity).
If we double the Length & the Width we quadruple the Volume (or the Capacity).
If we double the Length & the Width & the Height we Octuple the Volume (or the Capacity).
IOW, we have at minimum, Twice the Venator's Capacity. At maximum, Eight times the Venator's Capacity.
IE wrote: | 2x 432 = 864 Starfighters.
4x 432 = 1,728 Starfighters.
8x 432 = 3,456 Starfighters. |
