I just wanted to let you know that I have made a random NPC creator.
You can choose between 13 common races and 11 types of characters or just let it all be random.
I find it handy when you need some henchmen in a hurry (especially if your gaming session is about to begin).
Comments are welcome, but go easy on me, I am not a professional programmer and all I know is what I have taught myself
Here it is: (further down)

Sweet! I like it includes names, and a variety of trades, and experience.
It'll make things even faster for all sorts of gaming. _________________ Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom. Psalm 145:3 |

Is there a reason why a major villian / hero doesn't have 18D in attributes? Just curious. _________________ Luke, I am your father.

That's improbable?

That's...highly unlikely.

Because I am a bad programmer
Maybe it would be nice that way, but then I should have made the whole thing different. |

It's cool. I was just wondering if there was a reason why main heros and villians were not on par with the PC's. _________________ Luke, I am your father.

On the whole, way cool. I think that it works pretty well as is. However, you can make it better in a couple of ways.
First, I think that when they get to elite, a couple of extra attribute dice would be good, and definitely 18D for minor and major NPCs.
It would be a bit more useful if the skills were located under their respective attributes.
However, only a couple of small things in an otherwise fine piece of work. I hope you don't mind if I share this on a few other forums. Don't worry, I won't take credit. |

I'm liking it too! This is handy. Is there a way you could add a scroll bar when you generate multiple NPCs? It's okay to click in the text area and use the up down arrows, but a scroll bar would be better!
This is way awesome though! _________________ Check out some of my games at DriveThruRPG!

Go right ahead. It is supposed to be used.

Sorry, not the way the program is made now. Maybe I will make a version 1.1 were the text can scroll, but it would take some editing of the program code, and I would have to get to know more about VB first. |

Indeed, you know what would make this better would be the following...
More races...
...that is my whole list, really.
Basically, slightly better number crunching as someone already mentioned, and more of everything it already has.
Other than that, I have a game coming up and I am using this program right now. _________________ My backpack has jets!

After trying my generator out for a while and hearing your response I have made a version 1.1.
In the new version I have added the following:
• 6 new species: bith, givin, gran, quarren, verpine and weequay
• 2 new types of characters: doctor/medic and gambler
• A bonus to major and minor characters so that they have about 18D
• Lots of new equipment
I have also corrected minor errors and added a few extra features.
To answer the questions about the generator I present (drum solo):
The Star Wars D6 NPC Generator ver. 1.1 FAQ 8) :
Q: Why don´t the text have a scroll bar?
A: Because I don´t know enough about programming to make one in a text box
Q: Why does it only have 18 species when there are millions to choose from in the galaxy?
A: Because I want it to be a useful gamemaster tool. You should be able to use the random button to give you inspiration for any unforeseen encounter, without being bothered with hutts, star dragons or aliens no one in the gaming group have ever heard about. So I have only included 18 well known species.
Here it is, enjoy:

I'm still using (and loving) this program. One thing that I noticed is that I'm having a lot of trouble when I try to use it on my laptop. It has a really small screen, and it would be great if I could use a scroll bar on the right (not in the textbox, but for the program as a whole). Otherwise I have to tab down and guess if I've found the "generate" button. Is there any chance of another update? |
