|
|
Having watched The Bad Batch 101 "Aftermath" the other night I started to work on stats along with swrpggamer. We discussed what type of armor they wore and how this is reflected in Canon and Legends. Below is an attempt to capture the Canon version of the armor. It is very similar to the Legends version but also very different. What are your thoughts on this? Did I miss something? Is something there should not be? Can it be improved?
Quote: | Katarn-class Commando Armor
Armor used by clone commandos during the Clone Wars. It weighed 20 kilograms and provided better protection than standard clone armor, due to the special composition and novel chemical properties of its armor plates, along with the inclusion of deflector shields. It was also designed for easy bacta injection via handheld dispensers. Katarn armor was often highly customized by the clone commandos who wore it.
While there were several variations of this armor, certain features remained constant.
Helmet: The helmet of the Katarn-class armor had a HUD or heads up display that consistently displayed tactical data such as the location and distance to the target, the health of the wearer and the strength of the suit's shielding. The helmet could system link to others through the use of an internal communications antennae allowing each member of a squad to keep track of their comrade's health and location. Specialized internal sensors could detect the make, model, and relative accuracy of every weapon that a commando used, and could adjust the format of the targeting reticule for differing weapons. The Helmet had a built-in filtration system which could extract oxygen from toxic environments. The visor was designed to incorporate electrobinocular and night-vision mode. It also controlled the environmental features of the suit and had a tactical spot lamp.
Body: The body of the armor boasted reinforced duraplast plating for defense against blaster fire and other anti-infantry weapons. Its design included resistance to extreme heat and cold. The suit could be fully sealed allowing a commando to survive in vacuum for up to 20 minutes. The knuckle plate of the armor featured a retractable vibroblade used for close quarter combat and covert encounters. It also contained multiple sensors, including touch induced sensors and environmental sensors as well. Additionally, it had a chronometer featured on the forearm plate.
Backpack: The backpack featured specialized ammunition cartridges that held various types of ammo, and was reconfigurable for many different missions, such as an extra oxygen tank for aquatic and space-borne environments, a large bacta dispenser for augmented healing, or even an external communications array for long distance communications (i.e. subspace transmissions). The backpack usually carried: Explosives, ammo, medical gear, stealth gear, and either rations or gadgets used to survive in different operations. The backpack had a display on it that showed the last two digits of the individual commando's ID number.

I'm fully on board with the updated stats over the Legends stats. We saw Wrecker and Tech take a blaster bolts right to the chest and both were down for a bit, but not wounded. The Commando Armor is pretty strong.
Each member of Clone Force 99 had a custom helmet as well.
As a GM I find these updated stats to be easier to use in the REUP era of the game. _________________ SWRPGGM - Star Wars REUP |

We've seen the Clone Commando Katarn armour several times in the Clone Wars Cartoon (Gregor & Delta Squad wore it),
and the Bad Batch armour seems much more like modified/customised Mk II Clone Trooper armour.
Have they officially said that Bad Batch wear Katarn armour? |

According to the armor apperance and what is written in wookiepedia (cannon) the bad batch all wear modified clone trooper armors.
and thus not the katran clommando armor. |

I think I'm with Mamatried on this, the armour definitely looks less bulky than Katarn armour and more like modified or custom built
Clone Trooper armour. |

Per wookieepedia, Katarn-class Commando Armor:
Quote: | The four original members of Clone Force 99 wore modified Katarn-class armor. |
Anyway, lets circle back. The stats are meant to fir better to what we see in Canon. This does not include the PC game. Does this set of stats fit better? _________________ Don Diestler

Now we just need to put in stats for the customized helmets, 'cause you know for SURE that those aren't standardized in the least!
Also, didn't the Katarn-class Armour also have facilities to use Bacta from Emergency Aid Stations to heal themselves rapidly, rather than have the stations just give out bacta bandages? |

Completely agree.

I am unsure about this. Bacta was pretty new during the Clone Wars, the idea of them running around with tanks of it seems more from the PC game than from anything one would consider reasonable or Canon. I believe there is some sort of EZ slot for bacta whatever, but again, I don't think this appears outside the game. _________________ Don Diestler

My criticisms have more to do with the relative lack of usable rules for most of these. Some of it can't be helped, like...
Quote: | -- Polarized lenses to prevent flash blinding |
Can't write rules for protection from flash blinding without rules for flash blinding in the first place.
This one, though... Quote: | -- Voice activated comlink | Something like "use of comlink counts as a Free Action instead of a No-Roll Action.
Quote: | -- Heads Up Display with GPS (if available) |
+1D to Planetary Systems: Navigation rolls (+2D if GPS available)
Quote: | -- Electrobinocular viewplate with night-vision (50-100/200/500, +1D modifier to visual perception rolls at 100+ meters, |
Why have a range without some form of graduated Search Difficulty or Search bonus to accompany it? I don't have a rule that I like to represent this, but I am putting thought into it.
Quote: | can see in near total darkness up to 60 meters) |
As suggested elsewhere, this would be better represented by something along the lines of "Can ignore up to 4D of Concealment penalties due to Darkness or Smoke"
Quote: | -- Filtration system protects wearer from toxic environments
-- Climate controlled body glove allows operation in uncomfortably cold or warm climates and allows up to 20 minutes exposure to the vacuum of space. |
I did write up some rules for environmental damage due to toxicity or temperature, if you're interested. _________________ "No set of rules can cover every situation. Equipment 1.3 in article
https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Clone_Force_99#Equipment
Modified clone trooper armor is what it says, it does not say katarn commando armor.
Cut and paste
Equipment
Each member of the squad had a skull icon on their clone trooper armor, which could be seen as their unofficial logo and helped set the five apart from other clone units.[9] Clone Force 99 modified an Omicron-class attack shuttle named the Havoc Marauder, and used it as their own vessel.[12] |

I'd go with that Clone Force 99 has modified Katarn-Class Armor, except for Echo who wears modified Phase II armor and Tech who wears Pilot armor. Helmet wise, they had access to a lot of options as commandos. Hunter wears what appears to be a Phase 3 (or Phase 1 Stormtrooper) Helmet. Tech has a custom Clone Pilot helmet, Echo, Wrecker, and Crosshair each have custom helmets. _________________ SWRPGGM - Star Wars REUP |

Hmm, yeah from those pics, I think I might mostly agree with you here SWRPGGM. I'm not familiar enough
with Pilot Armour to identify that one, but I can see the other armour's characteristics. |
