We are a nostalgic bunch. There is some degree of grognard in every WEG Star Wars fan. We are still playing and discussing this game which was last officially published in 1998. It is completely natural for those of us who create, read, and use fan documents for this game to enjoy the nostalgic touches to their appearance such as familiar fonts, logos, etc.
However, you all should be aware that a prominent roleplaying game publisher's owner once misunderstood a fan document to mean that Star Wars D6 books were illegally being published for sale in South America without license from Lucasfilm and WEG. He made a big deal about it.
As a community, we need to make an effort to prevent these misunderstandings. A full fledged fan work style guide is really needed, but the one who is most qualified to make it probably does not have time to do so. So here are a few points:
(1) Please indicate somewhere in the document that this is a fan work.
(2) If you want to refer to West End Games for fake authenticity, please add a clearly visible "Inspired by" or something to that effect in front or above it. We are not WEG and the current WEG publishing imprint owner does not make Star Wars products.
(3) If including an UPC symbol for fake store-bought authenticity, please change the price to $0.00 (or add a $0.00 price if there isn't a price) to make it absolutely clear this product is not for sale and that it is not an illegal bootleg of a book that was for sale.
(4) Please do NOT include any fake statements (including symbol use) of Restriction, Trademark, or Copyright referring to Lucasfilm and West End Games. Doing so suggests false implications of license.
(5) Please don't copy and paste from Wookieepedia when making fan documents.
Thank you.
Wookieepedia Manual of Style
There are no "style" requirements for Rancor Pit forum posts, but if you are interested in doing things "correctly" then some of the above Wookieepedia article is helpful for Star Wars term capitalization, italicization, etc. This may also be helpful for creating fan documents.
