So we had been in below freezing temperatures for a few weeks straight with multiple snowfalls during that time, so it was piling up. The past few days the temperature has gotten above freezing for long stretches of the day and all the snow has been melting fast.
This morning I found out that both sump pumps were overloaded and failed last night, and our basement was a bit flooded. The pumps have been replaced and the water has been sucked out of the carpeted, finished half of the basement. The carpet is disinfecting. I am not able to fully asses all the damage yet.
There were a few WEG SW books close to the floor by my desk but it seems that they didn't get damaged so they should be ok. My Star Wars figures are in a plastic tote that was in a very wet part, so unless they are cracks or holes in the bottom, they should be ok. I have two boxes of comic books and one box of magazine that were all ruined — The three boxes will need replaced. All the contents are bagged, so as long as the bags had no holes in the bottom, the comics or magazines inside should be ok. I'll be really sad if some of those were ruined because some of those from my childhood are valuable (they are all nostalgic). There were a few other things that I already know were ruined, but nothing too important so far.

You're the 2nd person this month, who's reported a flood in their basement cause of the freeze/defrost this past week.. Makes me glad i have no basement.

Thanks. The clean up continues. We've had to throw out a few trash bags of stuff, but so far nothing super important. Tonight I was also able to go through the one collectible magazine box and two comic boxes that were on the floor. After inspecting every single comic book and magazine in those three boxes, I can confirm that not a single one was damaged — They were all completely protected by the plastic envelopes they were in despite the bottoms of the boxes peeling away. My wife found online that they make plastic comic boxes. They are pricy but I think they seem like a good idea now.
