This is a house rule I've always used in my groups:
When the particle shield is down (damage, ship unpowered etc) the ship takes +2D damage instead of losing 2D of hull, neatly resolving the 0D hull some ships can have. |

Also, if a ship's firing its OWN torpedos or missiles out, it has to lower the particle shields to do so. SO if an enemy's scanning, and times it right (IE they held initiative), they can shoot back WITHOUT your particle shields up. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

I have my doubts about this particle-has-to-go-down rule. In RotS, when Jedi attempted to land of a Separatist cruiser they had to bring down the hangar shields down, true. But few scenes earlier we can see doids taking off and passing through the shield with ease:
Check this scene where three tri-droid fighters launch through the shield.
Call it frequency/polarization/phase, one way pass, whatever. So maybe some difficult sensor test to match the...(sound too Star Trekish, ech) _________________ Don’t Let the Rules Get in the Way of a Good Story. |

The shields could also be one-way, projecting force in one direction.
You can go out, but you can't go in. This could also serve to provide a kinetic boost of speed when launching fighters. |

There is, arguably, some evidence of this in ESB, during the asteroid chase. Watch the movement of the asteroid on the left side of the screen in this scene. I've mentioned elsewhere that I think ships in the SWU are equipped short-range, localized tractor beam arrays to assist in docking and landing, and that said system is inverted (pushing rather than pulling) as part of the ship's navigation / particle shield systems. _________________ "No set of rules can cover every situation. There are some exotic techs like gungan shields that:
1) are capable of holding tons of water outside yet letting pass living creatures easily,
2) stopping high energy bolts yet letting pass (with a little effort) a droid which can walk through. _________________ Don’t Let the Rules Get in the Way of a Good Story. |

When looking at the organic or otherwise passes thriugh these they seems to be a form of "platma"
Though I would assume speed of the passing through/deflected object comes into play here.
We do examples of shiled that will let a slow moving "human" pass, but will stop a fast moving blaster |

Same thing is seen in stargate.. Gou'ald shield stop bullets and blasts from staff weapons, but not a knife being thrown. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |
