So, for *ahem* no particular reason, bounty droids have been on my mind recently. We have a stat template for a bounty hunter, and droids are allowed as PCs, but has anyone ever combined the two? And if so, what restrictions would you place on such a character? Would they be "owned" by one of the other PCs, or would they effectively be in servitude to some NPC individual or organization?
EDIT: Consider this an open-ended topic for any discussion of bounty droids, or of combat droids in general as PCs by extension. _________________ "No set of rules can cover every situation. Never really given it a thought. BUT initially, i'd say yes, they would have to be 'slaved' to a fellow PC or NPC org.. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

Yes, I would, but I'd want a good back story as to why, and even then, there would be complications... _________________ "No set of rules can cover every situation. An interesting backstory could be that in the Kessel Mines Revolt of 10 BBY, emancipated droid L3-37 introduced a computer virus that spread to many droids there, including a bounty droid that belonged to the owners of the mines. The virus causes droids to want to go rogue from organic ownership.
That could really work for any droid PC of any kind, not just combat models. _________________ *

I want backstories on all emancipated Wookiees, myself. _________________ "I've Seen Your Daily Routine. You Are Not Busy!"

In my games if someone wants to play a droid, and yes its typically a bounty hunter droid, I pretty much follow RAW with some additions.
1. 25D for stats, skills, and attachments that give a modifier
2. All stats have a min/max of 1D/4D
3. Droid is built on 3,000 credits
4. Appropriate Story Factor
Story Factor:
Droid Stigma: In galactic society droids are considered tools and property. They do not have rights or protection under the law except the property rights of the owner.
Story Factor:
Free Droid: Though the droid is emancipated it is still treated like a second class citizen throughout the galaxy. The droid will be scrutinized by the general public and possibly law enforcement.
Story Factor:
Imperial Bounty Hunter: Work exclusively for representatives of the Empire. Imperial hunters are trusted members of the Empire's "extended" law enforcement arm and their loyalty is without question.
Story Factor:
Guild Bounty Hunter: Guild hunters engage in hunts arranged entirely through the offices of their guild contractors. Membership has its perks, including: in-house training, availability of specialized equipment, and voluntary retirement at age 45.
Story Factor:
Independent Bounty Hunter: Though strongly independent, this group is among the most steadfast supports of the "bounty hunter's" creed. They typically look down upon guild and Imperial bounty hunters as company clones. Being independent requires them to be responsible for their own expenses, which include among others: medical expenses, Imperial permits, license fees, etc.
Bounty Hunter Code:
1. People don't have bounties, only acquisitions have bounties.
2. Capture by design, kill by necessity.
3. No hunter shall slay another hunter.
4. No hunter shall interfere with another's hunt.
5. In the hunt one captures, or kills, never both.
6. No hunter shall refuse aide to another hunter. _________________ Don Diestler

Maybe that’s because droids so rarely get to get in on the action. A droid who can be a player in a blaster fight might be more attractive. _________________ "No set of rules can cover every situation. From what i've seen, its more they don't want to play droids, cause of their status as not even 2nd class citizens, more so than their utility in combat. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |
