Because intimidation is basic to almost all life forms. Creatures are instinctually able to (attempt to) intimidate other creatures.

A predator bearing its fangs as a sign to back off or else get bit. A spider raising its front legs as a "fighting stance" when it feels threatened. A horse rearing up and snorting showing off its strength... etc.

People have intimidation as a basic instinctual thing.... IMO.

I have been thinking that some skills, mostly skill with no opposed roll, could maybe go very much higher than other skills.

or maybe the skill costs should be changed.

maybe increase CP rewards, and make non opposed skills cost 1xD to raise, and other skills 2xD to raise, advanced cost 5x and for specializations the non oppsed skill specialisations cost -1D to raise, the opposed will cost 1XCP (or 1/2 cost for opposed normal skills in this system)

Attributes and force costs still normal.

then I could see a cap on physical skills.
to me it makes little sense that a 2D strength human with 7D lifting can lift just as good as a 5D Stregth Wookiw with 7D Lifting.

Animals yea. NOT every human has it.. I know quite a few folk IRL who couldn't even TRY to intimidate a fly..

Or they are really not that intimidating, more "cute" when they try to be intimidating, it is simply 2D imitimdate rolling snake eyes.

I would say having being intimidating and having the intimidation skill is not the same, the first is in the eyes of the defender, and the intimidation is in the attck, I dare say eve the most non inidimating creature has intimidate skill, it is just extrmely low or bad rolls, now one thing we could argue in this case is if actually wild dice would apply, or maybe count negative on ones in cases like this.

now that is a thought, on an untrained skill the wild dice 1 can actually give minus rolls.

roll 1 on wild dice on any check over moerate and you roll wild dice again subtracting the value.
letting you have a -1 to -6 penalty on non trained skills under some conditions

As a GM, are you saying that there are some characters who you would say, "no, you can't even roll intimidation. You automatically fail, no matter who/what the target is"?

Remember: the skill itself has modifiers built in. For example, if your character is physically stronger, you get a +15 bonus on the roll (thus if you are physically weak, you are less able to intimidate).

No i am saying that its a Learned skill, not something i see as being innate, thus should stay under knowledge, not get moved to perception.

I'm so confused. Intimidation is learned, but Con or Investigation or Command is not?

As to intimidation as a skill, maybe this should be a advanced skill or something.

using Perception attribute to make a untrained "instinctive" intimidate.

while the more "making a threat" twisting your words and demeanor spesifically in a way that will be more intimidating to most is absolutely a skill.

Command I can see being similar, you can naturally have a presence that makes people follow you easier, you can be an actual natural leader, and you can have a way with people and and understanding of people in a way to help you cive out orders.

command is related to tactics but is ver differnt and covers very diffenr aspects.

but idk LOL
