|
|
Gable Brandau was a Jedi master at the time of Order 66.
Early Life
He began his Jedi training under Jedi master Ola Secluu, as a Jedi guardian. In his youth, he had an interest in nature and biology, being fascinated by the physiology of living things. As a youngling, he spent a disproportionate amount of time in the Med-Corps and the Agri-Corps, learning all he could.
Early in his Jedi training, he began focusing on the healing arts and spent much of his time outdoors interacting with nature in various climates. He learned how to live outdoors, including how to identify edible plants, how to track, and how to find water.
Knighthood
Gable was promoted to the rank of Jedi Knight at the age of 26, some few years later than his peers. His ability was never in question; however, his desire to face the trials was not as urgent as most other Jedi, a point of concern for his master, who eventually sent him on a peace keeping mission alone (an unorthodox move) in order to give him a taste of the autonomy that comes with the rank of Jedi Knight.
During his mission to liaise with the Rohjhadi people, he learned that a transport carrying an important diplomat had been shot down by guerrillas from a rival clan. Using the Rohjhadi's military resources, he was able to pinpoint the last transmission before the ship crashed, and assembled a search and rescue team to locate the diplomat. Upon arrival at the crash site, some of the crew had been killed, apparently after the crash, but the diplomat was not among the dead.
By assessing the crash site, Gable determined that a struggle had ensued and that several personnel had been taken by force. The Jedi and his team tracked the kidnappers to a hide-out where they discovered that a bandit gang, not a rival clan, was responsible for the abduction of the diplomat. Gable's search party had minimal combat training, so Gable engaged the bandits alone. After he defeated eight of them, those remaining fled or surrendered themselves into the custody of the Rohjhadi. The diplomat was returned bruised, but alive. He subsequently reported his findings to the Rohjhadi elders, explaining that it was not their rivals that had attacked their diplomatic transport. When all was sorted out, the two rivaling clans agreed to a cease fire and ratified a peace accord.
When he returned to the Jedi temple, the council agreed that his actions were worthy of promotion to knighthood.
As a Jedi Knight, Gable spent many of his years providing medical services in areas of the galaxy experiencing military conflict, disease outbreaks or famines.
The Clone Wars
During the clone wars, Gable was a General in the Grand Army of the Republic, commensurate with his rank of Jedi master. He commanded the 27th Medical Corps. But rather than lead from afar, he selected individual troops from under his command into an elite combat search and rescue team, which he personally lead. The team consisted of the Army's top combat medics (none of whom were clones), who were given advanced emergency medical training as well as field surgery training. They were also trained to a high level of tactical proficiency, able to fight at a similar level to elite commando units.
Their specialty was locating downed pilots in hostile territory and rendering immediate medical attention as necessary. When it was tactically expedient to do so, they also functioned as reconnaissance troops, artillery spotters, or as a security detail, but such missions were always impromptu and short term, as they required a somewhat different skill set than the team's portfolio could handle on a regular basis.
At the time of Order 66, Gable and his team were on a rescue mission to locate a republic colonel. When they found him and his crew, they were immediately attacked by the troops they had come to rescue. Gable's team sustained minimal casualties, and destroyed the colonel and his crew in the fight. They were able to access they colonel's communications archive to discover that they had received instructions to kill all Jedi. Realizing what had happened, Gable, and his team went into hiding.
He was eventually located by Jedi masters Umbroq K'utall and Kala Shane who recruited him into a secret resistance group known as Halo, a precursor to what would eventually form into the Rebel Alliance. Halo's primary function is to perform quick strikes against select imperial targets to cripple their functionality in certain strategically important areas of the galaxy, and then disappear before the military can react.
Halo has had a perfect mission record, however, a new threat from within the empire has formed, and is close to discovering Halo's existence. This threat is called the Inquisition, and it's leaders are former Jedi who remained loyal to the emperor after Order 66. Their mission is to track down and destroy or convert any unauthorized force users in the galaxy.
Personality
Gable is generally a kind man with a gregarious countenance. His defining attribute is his compassion for living beings. He is quick to joke and opportunistic about injecting levity into dismal situations.
If he has a point of emotional vulnerability, cruelty is it. He responds to such acts with swift and decisive force, with virtually no regard for personal safety: his desire to protect and preserve life tends to override his otherwise strong affinity for moderation and balance.
Notable Skills and Powers
Force Powers
Gable's force training focuses on the healing arts. During the Clone Wars, he was one of the Jedi's most knowledgeable healers, having a breadth and depth of knowledge in natural, medical, and force-based healing that surpassed all but the most educated and experienced Jedi masters in the Jedi's Med-Corps. He was one of the few Jedi trained in the art of Morichro, a "forbidden" force technique preserved only by passing to those Jedi approved by the council.
He is also known to have an affinity for force-based augmentation, using the force to amplify his physical strength significantly, making him more effective in combat, as well as better able to perform in field operations in demanding environments that require a high level of physical conditioning.
He uses the force to detect otherwise elusive information in the field and is particularly adept at locating beings as well as sensing their physical condition.
Lightsaber Combat
Gable is a practitioner of Form V lightsaber combat, proficient in both Djem-So and Shien variants. He is not formally considered a master of Form V, but his skill with the Jedi weapon is significant, having been honed in countless battles during the Clone Wars. Gable's skill with the lightsaber is exceeded only by the Order's dedicated lightsaber specialists.

I like this character; this hospitaller character concept sounds interesting and has story potential. My question is this: during which era is his age 42 years old? Also, what relationship, if any, does Halo have with Senator Organa and the rest of the Rebel Alliance? Does Halo eventually become part of the Alliance? _________________ Sutehp's RPG Goodies

Age 42 during the purge.
Halo started out as a "diplomatic security" force for what would eventually become the resistance. However, Halo's leadership believed that diplomacy was impossible, preferring to strike directly and frequently at key points of the empire's military and infrastructure. Due to the difference of opinion, Halo and the Alliance split early on. By the time the Rebel Alliance forms, Halo's members are either dead or freelance (could be PCs or mentors to PCs, for example) and the inquisition has been utterly wiped out.
Halo and the Inquisition eventually destroy each other. Halo's ultimate greater purpose (unbeknownst specifically to any members of the group) is to destroy the Inquisition before they discover Luke and Leia.
They accomplish this in two ways (again, completely unwittingly):
1) They themselves are a group of 12 Jedi and a few platoons of troops. The Jedi's presence constantly blips the Inquisition's radar, so-to-speak, distracting them from the reality that Luke and Leia even exist.
2) The Inquisitor most capable of discovering Luke and Leia is in turn being hunted by Halo and they actually interrupt him on his way to Tatooine (or Aldaraan, take your pick) and confront and defeat him just before he would have confirmed the presence of a force-sensitive. |

Edited the original post to add the "personality" section...
A glaring oversight on my part to leave that out.... |

To her credit, Mon Mothma at least at the time of the Ghorman Massacre (about 2 years before the Battle of Yavin) didn't think a diplomatic solution would work either, which is why she called the Emperor a lying executioner, got branded as a traitor for that, fled the Core Worlds, and evacuated to Yavin. But even though she knew the Emperor couldn't be trusted, several members of the Rebel Council still hadn't been convinced of that, so she still felt the obligation to at least try a good faith effort at a diplomatic solution (to say nothing of having to maintain a united front with the Council). And remember, all this was before anyone knew of the existence of the Death Star. (For more detail on her thoughts at this time, read the short story "Contingency Plan", by Alexander Freed in the From a Certain Point of View anthology. Mon Mothma, as well as Bail Organa, knew early on that military action to overthrow Palpatine was inevitable, but they still had trouble convincing some of the other civilian leaders of the Alliance of that, at least before Yavin and the Death Star. Having to deal with a regime that's willing to destroy entire planets to maintain its control tends to harden the resolve quite a bit. If the Death Star had defeated the Rebellion at Yavin, Mon Mothma fully intended to surrender herself to Palpatine...while leaving a cache of Rebel Intelligence files to some younger Rebels so that they could rebuild the Rebellion and continue the fight without her.)

Halo splitting off from the Rebel Alliance relatively early also calls to mind Saw Gerrera; what relationship, if any, did Halo have with Saw? Did they ever assist each other, even covertly? Did they approve or disapprove of each other's methods? Did they even know of each other at all?

When you talk of the Inquisition, are we speaking of the Legends Inquisitorus from Galaxy Guide 9 Fragments from the Rim or the canon Inquisitorus from Star Wars Rebels and the recent comics? (I suspect the latter, but I still want to be sure.) _________________ Sutehp's RPG Goodies

You can consider this "my SWU," for all intents and purposes. There is so much going on in the official or "legends" canon surrounding the clone wars now that it's just too much to keep track of. This whole story began around 2002, gaining some real traction after the release of RotS. For the sake of story continuity, I haven't bothered trying to retcon anything to fit the new timelines.
For what it's worth, I generally stick to the first 6 films when deciding what can/cannot happen in any narrative I come up with (keeps things much cleaner and simpler... easier to keep track of, etc.).
You can also assume that any inquisitor known to exist in canon does not exist in this "my SWU" continuity. I took the idea (an awesome one!) and made up my own story around it.
Basically, Vader is still "young" and "learning" how to adapt to his prosthetics, and so is not all that effective. There is a remnant of force users that are still a cut above him in the galaxy, and as far as his story arc goes (behind the scenes for the most part), he has to prove himself by defeating them, which in most cases nearly gets him killed many times, but he grows a lot in the process, both in the martial sense, as well as in cunning (the latter of which is absolutely necessary to defeat some of the force users who he must confront, including at least one inquisitor who defects). |
