|
|
I was reading up about the battle of jakku, and noticed the executor, i was checking out the new canon length if any.
It was set to 19 000 meters, however that is not what actually caught my eye.
it was this "...and utilizing its thirteen engine thrusters,[2] could reach speeds of 100 kilometers per hour."
Only 100s of kilometes pr hour? LOL
No wonder the empire lost

I'm strongly considering asking Whill to make this my new avatar. It pretty much encapsulates my opinions on the state of the SWU at the moment...
Apparently the source is something called Ultimate Star Wars. Does anyone own a copy and can double-check this? I really do hope it's just a typo. _________________ "No set of rules can cover every situation. I have Ultimate Star Wars, but it doesn't give the Executor's speed and that is not the citation in the Wookieepedia article. Ultimate Star Wars is cited for the 13 engines thrusters. The 100kph speed and the crew numbers are cited as from Star Wars Encyclopedia of Starfighters and Other Vehicles, which I also have.
Yes, that book does say 100 kph.
And yes, it is obviously a typo. (It is right across from the Imp I which it says has a speed of 975 kph.) Star Wars Encyclopedia of Starfighters and Other Vehicles just came out this year. Until the typo is officially corrected in a more modern source, the 100kph is not out of place on the Wookieepedia page.
It's "The 100kph Fallacy"! Because ship length wasn't enough to screw up for that ship! lol _________________ *

I'm thinking 'k' is a reference to the Japanese ken, or 6.95 ft. So if we assume they're talking about the Micromachine-scale toys, the speed looks about right.
Yeah, I really had to dig for that one. _________________ Aha! |

Well, after seeing magnificent speed of MG-100 StarFortress SF-17, I sometimes wonder...
A typo obviously. But why Wookiepedia copies it without any second thoughts?
But still, all those so called WEG's maxed atmo speeds, do not feel too bound by those.
Ships travel "slowly" during landing approach or combat, but when leaving the atmosphere, main drive kicks in and gives significant boost, so they go hypersonic instantly: 1. Original X-Wing launch in Ep. IV
2. Noa's ship leaving (main drives activates at 1:17:19)
3. Canto Bait escape (sorry no link)
4. E.T. leaving (if you consider it as semi-canon) _________________ Don’t Let the Rules Get in the Way of a Good Story. |

I personally use the max atmosphere speed as that, max.
and to me they make much more sense on fighters and small freighters than on hge capital ships, which to me are so huge that even with considerable speed, though much less than fighters will appear to be gliding slowly.
I would though agree that ships like a star destroyer would be gliding fairly slowly in atmosphere and most likely have little if no comparable manuverability compared to when in space. |
