CASSIAN ANDOR LIVE-ACTION SERIES ANNOUNCED
Quote: | DIEGO LUNA RETURNS AS THE ROGUE ONE HERO IN A SPY THRILLER FOR DISNEY'S DIRECT-TO-CONSUMER STREAMING SERVICE.
Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger announced today that Lucasfilm is in development on a second Star Wars live-action series for Disney+, the Company’s new direct-to-consumer streaming service. The series, which will go into production next year, follows the adventures of rebel spy Cassian Andor during the formative years of the Rebellion and prior to the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Diego Luna will reprise the role of Andor. “Going back to the Star Wars universe is very special for me,” said Luna. “I have so many memories of the great work we did together and the relationships I made throughout the journey. We have a fantastic adventure ahead of us, and this new exciting format will give us the chance to explore this character more deeply.”
The rousing spy thriller will explore tales filled with espionage and daring missions to restore hope to a galaxy in the grip of a ruthless Empire. A release date for the series has not yet been announced. Stay tuned to StarWars.com for the latest updates. |
I'm really excited for live-action Star Wars to return to the classic era again for a Rebel spy thriller series featuring a cool character from one of my favorite films, reprised by the original actor. For me, this is much more interesting than a post-RotJ Mandalorian-focused series. My family got rid of cable over a year ago and moved to internet-streamed TV (Netflix, Hulu) to supplement broadcast TV, so there already wasn't much doubt that I was going to subscribed to Disney+, but there is definitely no doubt now. Maybe they'll get Alan Tudyk at some point and we'll get to see the story of how K2 came to be Cassian's droid. (K2 probably won't be there at first because K2 would raise the effects budget.) _________________ *

That sounds pretty good. I might spring for the DVDs. Not quite ready to shoot the dish off the roof yet. _________________ Aha! |

Great news!
As Cassian said in R1:
Quote: | Some of us... ... most of us, we’ve done terrible things on behalf of the Rebellion. We’re spies. Saboteurs. Assassins. Everything I did, I did for the Rebellion. And every time I walked away from something I wanted to forget I told myself it was for a cause that I believed in. A cause that was worth it. |
I want to see it. _________________ Don’t Let the Rules Get in the Way of a Good Story. |

Damn, Diego Luna is reprising his role as Cassian Andor? I sooooo wanna see this...but I don't have streaming or any TV service of any kind (can't afford it yet). I guess I'll just have to wait for the DVD/BluRay after Season 1 is over (which might be 2 years from now or something if this is going into production in 2019).
Damn, if Alan Tyduk comes back as K-2SO, that would be amazing, but yeah, Whill's right, that would launch the effects budget through the roof. Maybe when the second season gets green-lighted? A man can dream.... _________________ Sutehp's RPG Goodies
Only some of it is for D6 Star Wars.
Just repurchased the X-Wing and Tie Fighter flight sim games. I forgot how much I missed them. |

This (like The Mandalorian) is something I'll have to get a DVD of. I just really want to avoid adding more and more streaming services. Because soon I fear there will be very very many of them. |

My step-dad recently went into his local cable/internet provider office, and they expressed the sentiment of 'Who knows if cable TV will still be here in 5 years?' So someday possibly not far off, internet-streamed TV may be the norm. _________________ *

The good news is that Alan Tyduk will at some point reprise his role as K-2 for the series! The bad news is this series will not be released on Disney+ until 2021.
And we weren't really wrong about about the budget. Disney said they are investing so much money in original programming for Disney+ ($1 billion), that they don't expect to start making profit from it until 2024 according to projected subscriber numbers and such. It's a much different business than theatrical movies where they start profiting (or not) within a couple months of release. _________________ *

While I really liked Rogue One, I will be reserving judgment on the Cassian Andor show.
On the other hand, The Mandalorian looks quite literally AMAZING!!! The price for Disney+ has been confirmed to be $6.99/month, and the entire season will be dropping at one time.....on November 12th. |
