A blaster shot is rolled against the range difficulty number. A vibroblade slash is rolled against its own weapon difficulty rating. Everything adds the target's defensive skill roll to the difficulty, or substitutes it for said difficulty. A Brawling apparently has no difficulty number to hit if the target of the blow declines to roll Brawling Parry.

(My source is the pure Second Edition rulebook.)

Base brawling difficulty is Very Easy!

Looks like that's on... pg 89 of 2E Revised & Expanded, but I vaguely recall seeing that somewhere in my good old 2E "blue book" as well... maybe.

If I track down the chapter and verse from that edition, will update!

EDIT: Annnnd it looks like that may have been first stated out right in 2E R&E!

I am speechless. The game designers omitted that detail as long as that? (I have supposed that it was presumed that brawling parry would always be rolled as a matter of course. Not necessarily by any character played by me; I believe in the saying, "The best defense is a good offense.")

The Second Edition Rules Upgrade does acknowledge this not being stated in the blue Vader book:
Clarification: Brawling has a difficulty of Very Easy unless the target parries.
I can't say this has ever happened, but if an character being attacked is mapped out and can't mechanically parry, I would go by RAW and let the attacker try the Very Easy roll. But if a character is truly not resisting and willfully allowing himself to be punched, I would probably just say the attack is an automatic hit and only make the attacker roll a wild die to see if there is a complication.

The ONLY times i have ever had an upopposed brawl roll against someone, was when the attack came from surprise..

Yeah, I have to say that has also happened in my game, an "unarmed ambush".

Well, if they were really unarmed, then they must have been slashed by a jedi with a lightsaber!! Razz Razz

Reminds me a bit of this famous moment from DC Comics, as an example
