I just noticed that Wookiees in 1E cannot have a STR higher than 5D.
The normal maximum for characters is 4D for any attribute (and a 2D minimum). With aliens, this is changed to a scale of minimum 1D, maximum 5D.
If you notice, the Wookiee template in the 1E core rulebook conforms with this rule (which is listed on page 81).
Page 83 of the Sourcebook gives us an average Wookiee with STR 4D+1. A player character could make that top out at 5D.
Wookiees in 2E max out STR at 6D.
It's a big difference.
Combine the 5D max STR with the rule that any blaster hit will Stun its target, and Wookiees are strong, but not overpowered. |

In the spirit of 1e, PCs of any species have attributes between 2D and 5D in my game, so Wookiee or Herglic PCs can't have more than 5D in STR (even though NPCs can have up to species maximum).
And I ended up adopting the 1e Rules Companion happy medium where a Strength to resist damage roll must be at least double the damage roll to completely soak it, so just beating the damage roll (but less than double) is still a stun (for normal damage).
For tinkerer GMs, its not just 1e vs. 2e. We can take the best of both worlds (and all worlds). _________________ *
