|
|
If you are like me, then you love the Star Wars soundtracks. I just saw on Amazon that all of the previous soundtracks have been remastered and will be available on May 4 (Star Wars Day) for $11.99 each on Amazon.
Heck, I still haven't spent a lot of time with RO, TFA, or TLJ yet. I've been listening to books! |

It’s episodes I-VI, and it’s the Original Soundtrack programmes, that is, a somewhat limited selection of tracks from each movie. Still, the remasters are welcome, and we might hope that this is the harbinger of an even more extended release. |

I'm sticking with my pre-97 CD 4-disc boxed set. |

Any chance the Return of the Jedi soundtrack will be fixed? The previous complete release I bought has a "dead" sound quality. _________________ Currently playing D&D 5E and painting an unholy amount of miniatures. |

Yes, it is supposed to be fixed. But, again, it’s the very limited selection from the OST. |

I have the long scores and the original release shorter soundtracks, and I admit, I like both.
The shorter ones play well as an album of music. The longer ones--the complete scores--represents the films better.
I switch between listening to them. Depends on my mood. |

Can you give a breakdown of the different releases? The ones I have are from the 4-CD boxed set that came with an art book back in the early/mid 90s. (I used to have them on cassette, too, but I think I threw those out.) The 4th disc contains a version of Lapti Nek that sounds less like aliens, and more like the Pointer Sisters with vocal f/x added. (Snootles Comes Alive?) |

1. Original Soundtrack (1977, 1980, 1983)
2. Anthology (Arista, 1993)
3. Special Edition (1997)
That’s basically it. Each release added more music, but on the SE the sound quality is noticeably worse (and also there are a few changes due to the SE movies).
Personally, I got #2 and put it on my MP3 player, reordering the tracks to as close to movie order as possible. It’s very enjoyable! If you wish, I can share my track list. |

Oh, I have #2 on CD. That's the set I got ages ago, back in 30th Street Station in Philly, at the Sam Goody's they had in the station at the time. |

I have all of the above, but my 1977 SW soundtrack is on vinyl, my 1980 TESB soundtrack is on cassette, and my 1983 RotJ soundtrack is the first one I have on CD.

Explanation:
* - For “Han Solo and the Princess” there is the regular film cue which is in main listening order; then there is a greatly expanded concert piece which I considered essential. I purchased this track from the Gerhardt album and added to my list.
** - The “Jabba the Hutt” is the other missing concert piece, that I know of, which I supplied from this album. |
