My username comes from two sources:
Ryan - An alter-ego of "Riot," an emotionally damaged teen superhero I created in high school. High on power; low on self-esteem.
Darkstar - DC's Green Lantern Corp alternates during the 90's. Donna Troy...swoon.
Additionally, I had considered "Wildstar" after my favorite childhood cartoon, Starblazers, but I'm darker rather than wild. _________________ Currently playing D&D 5E and painting an unholy amount of miniatures. |

We had great fun! The original Wook's player liked to argue (both in and out of character), resulting in some frayed nerves occasionally. The group had to infiltrate a crime lord's lair in disguise and since most of our faces were known to this particular Ithorian, we voted the Wook to be our agent provacateur. Someone (I don't recall whom) floated the idea of shaving the Wook (which we didn't do) but we did end up applying a really bad dye job and a full body perm. Our Wook's player vociferously objected at first but the GM mentioned all the bonuses he'd get to Con and he finally went along with the plan to everyone's perpetual amusement. _________________ Aha! |

My username is originally found in the Bible. It is the name of a soldier who came to believe in God.
I took a liking to the name when Warhammer 40K borrowed it for a special character: a Space Marine veteran sergeant who lead fledgling marines in battle, and who was an expert close combat specialist.
I now use the name in RPing for characters whose life/influence is integral to the story, but are in no way capable of interacting with it (usually, a dead father or mentor figure, for example). The name is usually given to a character in a PC's back story. |

Back in Norfolk va when i was stationed at NoB, i was heavily into white wolf's werewolf the apocalypse.. After playing for 8 mo, i started DMing a few different games, and in one i created a rank 4 were-bear as a mentor for one of the PC's.. Eventually he became a common feature in a # of my games, and i just decided to keep the name for most of my gaming sites.. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

In Shadowrun's "Paranormal Animals of North America", there was an awakened rattlesnake, the Deathrattle, whose scientific name was Croaltus nex (might have the genus wrong; been a little while). In the Shadowtalk, someone talked about an elven assassin named Nex who used this weird poison no one knew about, and he thought he'd just figured out where it came from... then Nex came on and said "Whelp, my secrets out, looks like I'm gonna have to silence this guy" and someone else popped in a bit later asking the first guy if he was ok... then a couple months later saying "Guess not".
Needless to say, that was cool as f*** to my 8th/9th grade self.
When I started getting on-line, it was as variations on Nexx... Nexx2 and then Nexx3 on AOL, PopeNexx for a while, finally settling on MrNexx, which I used for a number of years in a few different places... to the extent that my first wife would still call me Nexx from time to time. I mostly use my own name these days, but kept MrNexx for around here. _________________ "I've Seen Your Daily Routine. You Are Not Busy!"

in the beginning i was dubbed ALF. i liked the show as a kid. so in the early 90's when arcades were still around. i would hang around the only one in town. and eventually i needed a name to type in over and over again because of my impressively high scores. i was just putting in my name but it was made apparent that i could not do that and still look cool. so i went with ALF. so if you see a very old arcade game and on the leader score board you see that name ALF, its probably not me, it was way too common back then.
shortly later i came up with the name Airon Cirmondian VII. it was the name of a sylvan elf ranger. actually it was the name of the 2nd character i had ever played in AD&D. only this time instead of being given a premade character i got to make him myself. and since email was becoming a thing, and using alf for hotmail was unavailable. i went with cirmondian. soon thereafter i dumped hotmail for other providers.
well it being the late 90's at this point and i was playing AD&D pretty regularly and was getting into reading, despite the best efforts of public education. it was all fantasy at this point mostly forgotten realms stuff. i started reading some RA salvatore. i enjoyed the first 2 books of the demon wars saga, which was only a trilogy at that point, quite a bit but had to wait for the 3rd one to come out. it came out late into my senior year of high school and after i graduated i bought the book. yep spent most of my graduation money on the demon apostle. well by this point i was getting annoyed with everyone mispronouncing cirmondian as "kerr-mun-dee-un" rather than "sir-moan-dee-an" i wanted another name that personified who i was at the time and was easier for people to say. so i chose thedemonapostle. at the time i thought it was so cool. _________________ Aim low, shoot high

I became scarred and deformed, when I witnessed my favourite Jedi fly straight Outta Windu.
Thw name stayed as an eternal reminder upon this injustice. /s
Nah, I might have heard it as a joke somewhere and then decided it was a good name. |

I mean... it's a great pun. If you can make it work as a screen name, do it. _________________ __________________________________

Like garkhal, I'm a longtime fan of the Old World of Darkness games like Vampire: the Masquerade and Werewolf: the Apocalypse. After one of my college buddies ran V:tM (the first RPG campaign I had been involved in since playing a single session of AD&D back when I was 10), he decided to start a W:tA campaign. I rolled a Silent Strider (a werewolf tribe based on Ancient Egyptian culture) but couldn't think of a decent name. My GM friend suggested "how about Sutep?" I just added the "h" to make the spelling look more Ancient Egyptian-y and the rest is history. _________________ Sutehp's RPG Goodies
Only some of it is for D6 Star Wars.
Just repurchased the X-Wing and Tie Fighter flight sim games. I forgot how much I missed them. |

However, sometimes I wonder what the story is behind some of the screennames on the forum. I've shared mine, and there isn't much to tell, but if there is a story behind yours, I'd like to hear it. |

Back in the early 1990s I was working at a lumberyard. I wore a vest, not a purple one, but a vest so as to stay warm when we were in and out a lot during the day. For an unknown reason (I asked, and they couldn't figure out an answer) they started calling me Grimace. This went on for about two years. It kinda stuck. From that time on, if I ever met any of those people I worked with , even after I ceased employment there, they called me Grimace.
So I just kept it. |
