The Dark Side is power and you have to enforce to everyone how much more powerful you are than them because of the Dark Side. |

Not all dark side aligned characters are Jedi, such a character may not even be aware he or she is accessing the "Dark Side" or refer to it as such.
For example the villain in the adventure on page 89 in GG8: Scouts. Dhar Bulwinn considered himself a Magician, he exhibited evil tendencies of course but didn't use the term "The Dark Side". _________________ "Maximum firepower!"

Surely not really surprising..
People in Germany were pretty proud to be part of the Third Reich. That change took less than 20 years, and grew out of a need for stability coupled with a charismatic leader, a bold vision for greatness, unity and a definite scapegoat.
Palpatine was granted his powers by majority vote in the midst of galaxy-spanning chaos. To most citizens, he could be seen to be the reason for the order and stability that came afterward.
Trouble caused by those pesky rebels has to be dealt with by legitimate use of force by the brave Imperial forces. |
