Mustaches report in! Green Twelve (WION DILLEMS) standing by. Red Eleven (RALO SURREL) standing by. Red Seven (HARB BINLI) standing by....
For this CHARACTER TUESDAY photo shoot, wild man Wion (on the far left) decided to tote around Biggs' helmet.
I figure the easy in-universe rationale is that because Wion steps in to fill a vacated spot in Green Squadron, Biggs winds up assuming Wion's old spot in Red, complete with rushed helmet hand-offs.
Lock Mustache-s into attack position... and so on. Hope you dig! |
Lol, they certainly were sporting that 70s hair, weren't they? Another nice homage to ANH.
As for what helmet I'd wear, I'd want something like General Merrick's (Blue Leader) helmet. That turquoise was the perfect color, but I'd rather have Sabine's Pheonix Firebird on it instead of the regular Rebel Starbird. How cool would that look? |
Such a helmet would be a find. Hopefully, despite the decimation of their numbers at Scarif, the Squadron and its colors will soon fly again.
And speaking of flying, mustaches and hair, someone on the g+ boards linked to this fellow, in response to this obscure character post.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robin_Olds
While I had heard of him, I was not super familiar -- though as some of the history buffs here might have already reasoned,
he is almost certainly a historical inspiration for the rebel pilot look, coupled with late 70's fashion/style.

CHARACTER TUESDAY sheds some... LIGHT... on the subject of LIGHTMAN! Since seeing the on-set photo and behind-the-scenes footage of this unfinished creature from Star Wars: Return of the Jedi sometime ago, I had hoped he would someday be resurrected in some form of Star Wars media. And so, why not SW D6?
Even the character's silly on-set appearance, with its lightbulb-rigged costume creating the lighting for a never-completed special effect, can be explained away in-universe as their need to wear protective jumpsuits so as not to cause any electronics they touched to go haywire!
And here is the clip from which I doctored the character image to omit the other guy in the background:https://youtu.be/KyjuHeVJcI4
As well as the old interview called back up after the photo first appeared back in the naughty aughties: https://www.starwarz.com/tbone/inside-jabbas-palace/
Hope you dig!
"LIGHTMEN"
Homeworld: Edsuun Teslaar
Attribute Dice: 11D
DEXTERITY 1D/4D
KNOWLEDGE 2D/4D
MECHANICAL 0D+2/2D
PERCEPTION 1D/4D
STRENGTH 1D/3D+2
TECHNICAL 0D+2/2D
Move: 8/10
Size: 1.3 - 1.9 meters tall
Special Abilities & Story Factors:
• Electromagnetic Secretion: Any physical contact that Lightmen make with technology can potentially wreak havoc. Unless the Lightmen are insulated by protective jumpsuits, treat any contact with technological devices lasting longer than 3D rounds as a brawling attack that inflicts energy damage equal to their Strength. Though many Lightmen now use insulator suits to facilitate their interaction with technology, other beings remain wary of the species.
• Long Tendrils: The extended reach of their solid-light tendrils grant Lightmen a +1D bonus to any grappling and climbing/jumping skill checks that are made using their upper limbs.
• Luminous Beings Are They: As their corporeal form consists of coherent plasmic energy, Lightmen are resistant to physical harm and are capable of absorbing even blaster fire. In game terms, they gain a +2D bonus to resist physical and energy damage. However, their body energy chemistry can become unbalanced or overloaded. Treat any energy damage result as two wound levels higher. In addition, Lightmen illuminate their surrounding area (a 20m radius + a Strength roll total), but suffer a -2D penalty to sneak rolls in normal lighting, and -4D to sneak attempts made in darker conditions. Lightmen also perceive a fuller range of the electromagnetic spectrum, and suffer no penalties for flash-blinding or darkness.
• Recharge: Lightmen can only maintain corporeal form for an amount of days equal to the D of their Strength die code before requiring rest. If they try to exceed this duration, they must make a stamina check vs. Moderate difficulty, with subsequent rolls required every hour thereafter, at one difficulty level higher per hour. If any of these stamina rolls fail, their bodies dissipate, and are subsumed by the closest source of light, electricity or plasmic energy. If no source is present within a distance of 20m, Lightmen perish. To regain physical form, Lightmen must recuperate for double the number of D of their Strength die code in hours.
• Visual Language: Lightmen communicate in a complex visual way, using subtle fluctuations in wavelengths of light to convey meaning. They cannot speak Basic, but do understand it.

But within that barrel, tharr be GOLD!
Haha, semi-seriously though, I am fond of certain characters from the Holiday Special, and had statted-up 3 others previously, at some point early last year -- though this was in the early goings of my "Obscure Characters" project, when some house-ruled skills had crept in and the layouts were far, far less polished. I will say that the canonization of four-armed Julia Child parody
Gormaanda (via the backstory for TFA's chef, Strono Tuggs) is
more so scraping the bottom of the barrel, though I may try to
stat her at some point anyway!

(Obscure) Character Tuesday returns. Due to (un)popular demand, perhaps questionable personal taste, and as promised above,
we revisit The Star Wars Holiday Special with another of its now canonized characters: GORMAANDA, Galactic Gourmet!
This four-armed, gray-purple skinned Julia Child of space was one of three characters played by Harvey Korman in the variety show special.
What is it with Star Wars and its four-armed chefs, eh? There's Gormaanda, Doodnik Sharpelz from the Droids cartoon and of course,
Dexter Jettster. While the latter two are "greasy spoon" types, Gormaanda here is an award-winning, galaxy-renown chef who was
canonized in The Force Awakens era short story "Recipe for Death" from the Tales From a Galaxy Far, Far Away Volume I: Aliens anthology.
And thanks to the power of the internet archive, one can access at least one of her fictional recipes:

Happy Pi Day! And though Gormaanda might've been a more fitting post today than last week, Character Tuesday presents the closing installment – for now – of the canonized characters from The Star Wars Holiday Special: TEAK SIDBAM, lovelorn repossession agent and first place finisher in the Ponda Baba lookalike contest.
Here he is trying to woo Bea Arthur at the Cantina in the best quality bootleg yet:
https://youtu.be/D6K6ETASu1E?t=1m53s
And he loses out to the jazz-hands Rodian that cuts in! * Sad slitherhorn noise * Poor Sidbam. And really, though we don't quite so clearly see the underside of Sidebam's finned hands, I kind of hope that they look more like this Hasbro action figure interpretation, rather than simply being digitless mittens:
http://www.yakfaceforums.com/TGuide2004/ActionFigures/TVC/basicfigures/VC70/lf29sm.jpg
As Sidbam's previous EU bio had him in pursuit of a freighter, I figured why not have his new canon iteration be in pursuit of the old EU's stolen Infinity and have the thief be BoShek? Old sideburns was on the run and hiding out in Mos Eisley anyway. I always imagined the Infinity as a YT-2000 and so, it is stated as such in Sidbam's write-up and in my old BoShek write-up from late 2015, despite the ship not being given a set make and model in the old anthology short. In any case, hope you dig!

Obscure Character Tuesday is now boarding – though you only get to see this guy once you get off of the ride.
Stats and write up for Zzzzyxxx, spaceport control officer at Star Tours: Tokyo!

For 4/4, CHARACTER TUESDAY gives you 3! LORVO DERIGO, SHEEDZO KEX, and RODD NERTU from Star Wars Rebels: Recon Missions.
As with previously statted KERI BELAB and RANCE LOJO, these three background extras from Rebels are given names and minor characterization in the Recon Missions mobile game.
Why these 3 specifically then? Well, we see these Aqualish, Ugnaught and Rodian character models walking together as a group
in the S2 episode "Brothers of the Broken Horn," with each giving Ezra and Hondo a dirty look – though the Ugnaught is too short
to be seen in the image below: https://goo.gl/qs1xcT
And so, with the lot of them hanging out in the same safe haven in the game, it makes sense that a few would stick together once the Spectres left Lothal, no?
And with Kex's character talking about trying to get past Imperial checkpoints and his operation failing – along with the Ugnaught from Zeb's S1 short "Entanglement"
shown trying to (foolishly) bribe stormtroopers, Kex seemed the best candidate to be cast as the ringleader, however ineffective he is at thinking up any actual schemes.
Here's RODD NERTU being threatened by Stormtroopers in an early game level: https://youtu.be/MWBUDpozMyU?t=7m59s
And to brush up on your German, see Lorvo and Kex's appearance in game:
LORVO DERIGO:

SHEEDZO KEX:

Hope you dig!
*EDIT: Fixed a minor typo in Lorvo Derigo's bio and updated the PDF! |

CHARACTER TUESDAY presents ONAR KOMA, Black Sun's favorite burly bruiser from FFG's Imperial Assault: Jabba's Realm tabletop game expansion! I was already a fan of his character design back when it was first revealed last year, and so with the expansion finally seeing release, I was glad to have access to more info on Onar's background and abilities at last – so as to stat him up for SWD6!
His 5D STR exceeds the usual Aqualish maximum of 4D+2... but really, just look at the guy! Although RAW does allow for outliers to exceed their species maximums, I still mitigated this by giving him 17D+2 attribute dice overall, so that the "rare physical specimen" aspect of his character still costs him in a minor way elsewhere.
Imperial Assault players feared that Koma's lack of defense dice would prove to be too big of a weakness, making him too "squishy" despite his "tank" status. Retained this aspect of the character by not improving his dodge skill beyond attribute level, though it did not make sense to apply this limitation to his close quarters defense. Though he is quite the mobile character – doing a lot of charging and running in Imperial Assault, it also made sense that his combination of training and faith in his own brute strength would lead him away from focusing on developing an ability to get out of the way, and instead toward becoming much better at getting IN the way of things. Though dodge does factor in that sense of awareness as well, this definitely felt like the truer conversion. With high HP and quick recovery special abilities reflected in high Strength, stamina and willpower, he's not quite a blaster-proof wookiee, but Koma can still soldier on despite absorbing many a blow and a blaster bolt or two. Again, hopefully a faithful translation, and hope you dig!

To celebrate Star Wars' 40th anniversary year, CHARACTER TUESDAY presents ye olde (blue) Papa Bear himself, BARON PAPANOIDA
from The Clone Wars and Revenge of the Sith! Though surprisingly badass during the Clone Wars, when he is elected Chairman of Pantora
and gets to add another title to his resumé, the depiction therein of this character (played by George Lucas in RotS) is at least grounded
in his offscreen backstory as head of a vast information network, what with his onscreen familiarity with underworld dealings, as evidenced
by his "friendship" with Jabba the Hutt, as well as his knowledge of both investigative and martial skills.
Here's Big Papa G. bargaining with Jabba in the episode, "Sphere of Influence":
https://youtu.be/BCnEoDv2Vpg
... as well as two-fistedly shooting up half the cantina to save his kids:
https://youtu.be/xfuU14BUQWY
Couldn't decide on posting Papanoida closer to "May the Fourth" or closer to ANH's original 5/25 release date – so it's neither! –
and May 4th's preceding weeks it became. Part 2 of Lucas-based Character Tuesday shenanigans to come! Hope you dig.
