A ship like this is perfect for Piracy.

It's cheap enough for a pirate group to put together a squadron. Cheaper than a lot of starfighters.

Ion weapons are perfect for capturing freighters.

Universal cargo containers are designed to carry different types of cargo. Pressurized and unpressurized, liquids, gasses, temperature sensitive, atmosphere sensitive, even life support to transport exotic animals, livestock, etc.

So a pirate group can easily convert cargo containers to carry boarding parties to capture immobilized ships and unload cargo into the other containers.
