Let us imagine a relatively common TV/Movie scenario.
Firefight breaks out, and the only person injured is the medic. In game terms, he's Wounded or Wounded Twice... still functional, but damaged.
Can the Medic take part in a combined action to heal himself? Does the usual -1D for operating on yourself apply, in addition to other penalties?

I don't see why not, unless the narritive dictates that his hands are too injuured to do so.
If I were running it, I would allow the medic to "participate" by providing a bonus to the command roll. |

This reminds me of that scene from Saving Private Ryan when the medic was wounded and Private Upham said "Tell us how to fix you!"
Just hope your medic didn't take a blaster bolt through his liver.

That idea is more or less what I was going for... the medic might not be able to physically do it, but he can tell others how to.
