So we are just finally introducing minis to our campaign and everyone is loving it. Though I have run into a problem with movement and maps. My characters, if I do one square equals one meter, can basically run to one end of the map and back if they go all out.
My question is, how many meters do you all say one square is if you use minis? I know in fifth dnd one square equals five feet, but a straight conversation (Rounding up or down) seems they will move too little. So I'm wary of doing just that. |

I do one square = 2m. It does mean you need a large-ish table. |

For me it depends on the size of the board. If a standard 48x48 square mat i go with 2m per square (or hex). If smaller, say a 24x36 hex map, i go with 5m per square/hex. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

This is about what I do. Though there are times when I adjust the ratio to fit the adventure's scale. _________________ __________________________________

I've also in the past done it where one hex/square was 10m, for longer distance fights, and as the group(s) got closer to one another shifted it down to 5m or 2m a hex... _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

seems the majority go with 2m=1 square/hex.
For half movement as a "free" action, do you guys round up or down for 10 movement? |
