There are indexes, to an extent, and I believe they do cover NPCs, check out this thread from a while ago where I was searching for indexes of the adventure journals: http://www.rancorpit.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4236
I think we determined that there were a couple missing, but that most of the (official) books were covered, meaning someone would only have to manually check a few books.
These indexes also cover starships, equipment, rules and so on.

Holy crap, that's a great resource!
Man, I would LOVE to archive that information and make it searchable! Unfortunately after downloading all the PDFs, I found them all to be password locked...! What monster would do that?? If I can get it all in one editable place, that's one step closer to a complete database. It's like it's taunting me, just out of reach.
I'm also looking at OCR solutions to cataloging all of the D6 NPCs - I'd really hate to retype all of that information ). That's one of the last major sections missing from the database, along with planets. |

Wait, what? The PDFs are password locked? You mean the ones from Korpil's index?
Send me a PM and we'll try sending an alternate version of the zip file. Just send me your e-mail address. They're opening for me just fine without a password. _________________ __________________________________

Sorry, I mixed up 'protected' with 'restricted.'
They do indeed open, so that part is good! Unfortunately, they've got copy/edit functionality disabled (under password lock), meaning you can't copy data out of them into other programs. There are ways around - some browsers will allow you to display and copy restricted files. However, the data comes back scrambled.
I'm gonna need a way to batch process all these PDFs. |

I think I may have found him. I'll see if he has an unsecured version of the index.

Oh man, if you could get that password from him you'd be my HERO.
I should also ping him for permission to use his index in my database, it's a fantastic resource! |

I'd be interested in unsecured versions of the those files as well, if he could make them available that way it'd be fantastic!
Either way I'm interested in seeing how this database grows!

I'll see what we can do. Right now he's under the impression that the whole index is lost to the mists of time. I'm waiting to see what his response is to the message that the D6 community has pretty well preserved most of the index. I'll see what I can do about getting a password from him, though I wouldn't hope for too much. _________________ __________________________________

I've heard back from Korpil. He thanked us for the files, then found the old backup CD that had the files on it, found the web-based database, and the missing files.
When he e-mailed me the five missing files, I opened them in Google Drive. From there, I found that I was able to copy and paste the information. Not all of it, and it's messy, but it's possible. It should be a huge time saver.
I'll be updating my files to include the missing ones. I'll just e-mail them to you, mojome, I think I still have you in my contacts. _________________ __________________________________

Sorry for the tripple post. But I just noticed that Korpil signed on, and answered your pesky password question.

This is great news! Thanks so much for digging into this. I also got your email with the missing files, so we should be good to go.
And dammit, I totally tried "korpil" as the password. Now I just feel stupid that I was so close and didn't get it! |

How is going? I'm excited with this project, and I can't wait to see the planets data base done. Courage! |

Maybe we could share our data. This is a message for everyone, of course.

It looks like I either never snagged it, or lost it in a hard drive failure. _________________ __________________________________
