Has anyone tried applying 'Scale' to characters?

I've always found that a lot of mid level creatures don't really stand up to a lot of punishment. Previously I've boosted strength or added armour but I thought that applying scale at least borrows the same mechanics as vehicles and starships.

Example:
Critter (Mynok) ?
Character (PC) -
Creature (Bantha) 2D
Beast (Rancor) 4D
Behemoth (Krayt Dragon) 6D
Leviathan (Space Slug) 12D

Anyone else tried something similar?

It's not without merit, but in the RAW, larger animals just use whatever the equivalent scale would be for their size (Speeder, Walker, etc).

The RAW does make provision for objects below character scale by adding dice penalties to hit something smaller, such as a specific body part or piece of equipment.

EDIT: That's on page 91 of the 2R&E Rulebook. It breaks down to:

Size = Difficulty Modifier
10-50 centimeters = +1D
1-10 centimeters = +4D
<1 centimeter = +8D
