Don's take on the proper death for JT Kirk, as described in ep. 51 has stayed with me. All around a great episode. Awesome work gentlemen. And btw the Rebels Sourcebook is very well done. Womp Rat Press is killing it! |

Thanks for the high praise. Glad you really liked Rebel Sourcebook. Hopefully Star Wars Droids (from the animated cartoon and comics) will be as good.
Just out of curiosity, what about the description of Kirk's disgraceful and lonely death stuck with you? _________________ Don Diestler

At first I laughed out loud at the bleakness of it. Imagined it as a robot chicken episode. Then I thought about Shatner actually performing it, and the massive defeat preceding his exile. How dramatically correct it seems. All his comrades either killed in his blunder or too broken to see him. As you said he finally faces his greatest fear. He doesn't even die in space. The final frontier is at last a place utterly mundane, traveled by everyone, leading nowhere. His final revelation could be as simple as recognizing that the infinities of outer space are a trifle when voyaged with an unexplored heart. |

Good show, guys. Totally enjoyed Ep. 53 of SWR. I liked the new addition of the intros for the show segments. I do, however, have a nit to pick. So, I'm already acknowledging that the commentary is that of a dirty nit-picker.
On the subject of the Jedi with the combat-oriented skills. First, yes, a combat-only oriented Jedi is not something that someone should encourage their players to do. That sort of build is just not the Jedi way. "Adventure. Heh! Excitement. Heh! A Jedi craves not these things. You are reckless!" So, there we TOTALLY agree. This isn't a way to build a character.
Though the order in which someone would learn these Force powers has raised quite a lot of questions over the years in the D6 communities. I get that the padawans and younglings would learn a good base of non-combat oriented powers, and the most aggression-oriented powers, such as Empower Force, Up the Walls, telekinetic fighting, etc. WOULD be later in the Jedi training. We totally agree there.
But, the nit that I'm picking is the notion that the martial skills would not come until the padawan would be handed off to a master. I would expect that some basis of martial training would be taught along side the philosophy, the lore, the diplomacy, etc. I would guess that LSC would be one Force Power that a youngling would have when they are handed off to a Knight to continue their training. Perhaps they would have magnify sense, or receptive telepathy, but things like Life Detection, Concentration, Accelerated Healing, etc. should definitely be in the basic suite before anyone passes their trials. _________________ __________________________________

That's actually a good nit to pick believe it or not. Yoda was teaching younglings rudimentary lightsaber skills in AoTC. _________________ Don Diestler

What, no banter? No intellectual sparring between respected peers? *sigh* I guess we'll do this the easy way.
Though seriously, it would be an interesting show note to see Dan and Don come up with their two independent lists of "The Jedi Basics." As in, if someone were just passing the trials, what would be the FUNDAMENTAL powers the young Jedi would have in his/her suite. And no cheating and showing each other before the show!
Every GM has had their own take on that. It would be kind of interesting to see how it plays out in a podcast discussion.
And, of course, not every starting Force sensitive player would (or even should) have these. We're just assuming that their training was under the most ideal conditions. Which, even Luke's was not. _________________ __________________________________

Here's the latest Shooting Womp Rats podcast:

We do. It’s more just running the gamut with some banter interspersed.
And some nostalgia combined with recognizing Pietre(now henceforth known as “Peter” – we still love your work) Valbuena’s continued efforts on statting lesser-known characters, updates on current Womp Rat Press work, then the added discussion on just what skills a Jedi should need fresh off of being a Padawan. |

Okay guys, let's start a betting pool going. How many drinks in before Don starts to feel the Force flow through him? _________________ __________________________________

I was pleased to hear in the latest episode that the DROIDS sourcebook may be released in the very near future. I have a lasting affection for the series; should you need a last-minute spot illustration or two, let me know! |
