Would it be possible to display a holo message in the clouds or above a city if it was broadcast from a holo emitter on the underside of a Star Destroyer?
If not do we know what methods the empire would use to broadcast a message across an entire planet? |

Anything's possible. Though depending on the thickness of the clouds the signal might be covered/degraded etc.. If anything i could see a ship modified like the new V series did where its underbelly could rotate 'mirrors/screens' into place to show it. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

Yeah I figured if the projector being able to reach the surface was too much then the destroyer would just enter further into the atmosphere - and then display the message closer to itself.
Intimidating enough to see - let alone the destroyer looming so close as to overshadow everything before the message plays. |

Given that we see holos projected into thin air, I'd say no clouds are required. Just a big enough emitter and tons of power if you're broadcasting a large image over long distances.

There are a lot of potential uses for that capability. Holograms in the sky could be used for psychological warfare, or to pass coded orders to troops when regular methods of communication are unavailable or inappropriate. _________________ "No set of rules can cover every situation. You will also need to have the ship in the atmosphere to have a viable audio portion of the broadcast... or ignore physics and come up with some clever technobabble to allow for the audio portion.

Meh, that's easy. Use a specially modulated tractor beam to induce vibrations in the planet's atmosphere. Or an array of them to create complex patterns. _________________ "No set of rules can cover every situation. Bonus points to the first player who uses holos & tractor beams to broadcast 'All your base are belong to us' right before an invasion.
Seriously though, the tractor beams are a capital idea! _________________ Aha! |
