Normally when using the Astrgoation skill, it takes a full Minute (equating to 12 combat rounds). I remember reading somewhere, that you can do an 'emergency astrogation' in 1 round at a flat out doubling of the difficulty. Does anyone know where that is? _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

From 2ed, Revised and Expanded, Chapter Seven - Space Travel and Combat:
Calculating a route takes one minute if the character is using a well-travelled route or is using pre-calculated coordinates. (In emergencies, a character can try to jump into hyperspace in one round instead of one minute. The astrogation difficulty is doubled and the character rolls each round until he either beats the difficulty number or suffers an astrogation mishap.)
Calculating a route between known systems takes about half an hour. These calculations take a few hours if the ship has never jumped to the destination system before. If the character doesn't know where he is, it takes one day to determine his ship's current position and then compute hyperspace coordinates.
Can't give you a page reference, because I don't own that book, only the "normal" 2ed, and the rules upgrade from Adventure Journal 11. _________________ Plagiarize! Let no one else's work evade your eyes,

Hence the other topic about instinctive astrogation sense.
Using the force seems to be faster. Translating difficulties is whare the power brakes down, as astrogation has variable difficulties that modify the target number past heroic vary easily. |
