That was my first thought, too.

At the top of the list was to kill Jar Jar Binks. I blew it off as highly unlikely at the time but the idea is growing on me. So now I am racking my brain on a way to turn Jar Jar into a bad guy, and thus a viable target. I know it is an unlikely scenario, but any ideas would be helpful.
The group is currently working with former separatist senators in the outer rim.
I would like to introduce this plot line about a year after order 66.
Ideally they wont know the BBG of the adventure is Binks until the final confrontation.
Potentially:
-the stress of realizing that it was his actions that started Paipatine's rise to power may cause him to snap but I need a way to make his actions a danger to the party.
-he has become a willing supporter of the new order and is actively targeting former separatists to alleviate his own guilt.
Any other Ideas? |
cynanbloodbane, maybe you've already seen this, but I thought of this thread after watching it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8yy3q9f84EA.
A lot of their evidence of Lucas's actual original intentions is flimsy, but I do find it to be an interesting idea. Instead of making Jar Jar a tragic figure or an older wiser Imperial who plays dumber than he is and secretly helps the Rebellion, the idea of Jar Jar being a major villain, even a powerful Dark Side Force user, is growing on me. _________________ *

There's so much baggage attached to him, it's hard to imagine actually using Jar Jar in a game. But I do like the idea of a Gungan character who's ruthless and ultra-competent, but perhaps hides it with a facade of buffoonery. Perfect for infiltrating a player group, before revealing his true colors! |

In RotS Jar Jar has one brief line and silently reappears in Padme's funeral procession at the end. In Legends, he succeeded Padme and became the Imperial Senator of Naboo until replaced by Padme's niece (and then he was known to survive until the New Republic's liberation of Coruscant according to a video game). In Canon, he drops off the face of the galaxy after Padme's funeral. There's no continuity baggage. Jar Jar is ripe for the picking for Star Wars campaigns set in the classic era.
The only "baggage" would be that carried by disgruntled fans, and if players still harbor strong animosity for Jar Jar's existence in Star Wars, they really need to get over it. That's so 1999. And besides, even if players still hate Jar Jar, it should be easy to accept him as a villain.

That's so WEG. Reading that immediately invoked the image of a PC template called "Gungan Baffoon" in the spirit of the other templates inspired by film characters. _________________ *

For a villainous Gungan, you could be extra duplicitous and have it be a child or female (at least, I assume Gungans have children and females; I'll have to freeze-frame their underwater city). |

By now, everyone's seen this quite nicely drawn (albeit cartoony) comic with Darth Binks + The Force Awakens cast, yes?:

Damn, that was cold what they did to Jar Jar at the very end. Who would have thought that Force Ghosts would hold a grudge?
People really need to get over their Jar Jar hate. _________________ Sutehp's RPG Goodies
Only some of it is for D6 Star Wars.
Just repurchased the X-Wing and Tie Fighter flight sim games. I forgot how much I missed them. |

I've also since started to warm up to Jar Jar. Really, by the time he was duped into proposing that Palpatine be given emergency powers,
I found him to be an at least somewhat sympathetic character. |

Well the easy way of making him a villain is using fan hate in universe. Hiw many monsters acted evilly because "if they hate me, I'll give them a reason to hate me". |
