At a young age showing an aptitude in technology he was groomed to be the next generation of engineers at Sienar Systems. While working on his internship, he was kidnapped. He managed to escape, but by that time there was wanted posters for him. He managed by luck more than anything to escape. He is trying to find his way in this big galaxy.

- Bureaucracy 4D
- Scholar (Space transports) 4D

(A)Engineering is the skill, Starfighter Engineering would be a specialization.

(A) Engineering is covered in the supplement Hideouts and Strongholds.

Again, Scholar is the skill, those would be specializations.

With only a 2d in Str and not one lick of streetwise, or any combat skill, he is gonna suck real BAD if and when those bounty hunters show up!

Yup, a sheltered, unequipped, target.

Defiantly flawed.

I think you mean page 29. Page 92 is about throwing grenades, useful, but irrelevant.

The only RAW indepth discussion on (A) Engineering is in Stongholds & Hideouts.

Okay that is confusing! The description says specialization. Gives no prerequisite for the base skill only for "specializations". Every set of char stats i have read shows no engineering skill, only specializations.

Best I can tell the [(A)Engineering (S)insert type of engineering] is treated as an (A) skill, in all respects except for initial purchase D allocation.
1-You need to meet the prerequisite skill of 5D.
2-You may not raise the (A-s) skill above 2D at creation.
3-You pay 1 pip=1D specialization skill cost at creation.
4-You earn additional skill D via CP & time as an (A) skill.
5-To take the (A) Engineering skill, not just one of the specializations you would need to have 5D in all repair skills.

I think it was generally assumed all the way from the 1e days that (A) skills were things you picked up IN Game, not started with.

Lol, RAI vs RAW, the language over the advanced skill section is clear. Now in truth unless the campaign went for a long time i do not see getting A skills even in game play normally with the cp cost and time cost. RAI might have been for NPCs.

In the original R&E book, they say this at the end of the Advanced Skill section Page 29 right column:

Quote:
If you don't place beginning skill dice in an advanced skill,
cross it off the template.


Meaning that they did intend for player characters to be able to start with advanced skills, so long as they adhere to the requirements.

Also, earlier in the section Page 29 Left column:

Quote:
A character may have an advanced skill listed on the template. If your character meets the "prerequisite skills" requirement, you may put beginning skill dice in the advanced skill.
(Check the skill's description in "Attributes and Skills" to find the prerequisite skills; you will probably have to put some of your beginning skill dice in the prerequisite skills.)
