This is a great question which I do not think it addressed in the books. I think this is going to be up the GM and a little common sense. At the very least your probably going to want to give a Dexterity penalty like you get with heavier armors.
There are no stack rules and since armor bonus is the determining factor I would not stack them but take the highest protection value as appropriate to the given situation. _________________ Don Diestler

Combine penalty if any, use the best per situation. That makes sense. |

I have never seen any rules one way or the other. SO i say they can be combined, but after 1d energy level, you start gaining dex penalties too. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

Especially if you consider that a species with natural armor is going to start to be REALLY bogged down if they're strapping other armor pieces onto themselves...at the very least, unless the armor is customized for their specific body. |

True, by the RAW< only flak (or blast) vests can be combined with other armor (combat jumpsuit), but nothing was ever considered it seemed with natural armor...
OR maybe they felt that races which DO have natural armor are repulsed by the thought they have to put on other armor.. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

We run it as follows.
Add +1 to each source for each 1D of additional added for stacking.
This bonus is added to the highest source.
for every 1D added - either physical or energy - the character suffers -1d dexterity unless the armor is tailored to them.
The difficulty of the fitting is Moderate + a modifier based on the character's race difference away from humanoid standard + the difference in pips the character would be allowed from stacking. This removes a -1D penalty - every additional difficulty level the repairman gets removes an additional -1 penalty to a minimum of -1 pip per additional 1D the character would receive.
NOTES:
In our games any armor worn by a race that is not humanoid standard that is described as being humanoid standard in design incurs a -1D Dexterity penalty to begin with.
The cost of this modification is 10% the armor cost and then follows the normal rules for repair and modification supplied in the core rulebook. |
