I am working on a generic Verpine template. The text sounds like they are diplomats as well as techs. So I was thinking a high perception as well as a high technical. Now for equipment i was thinking of a Verpine shatter gun w/1 reload and a personal multi - tool, datapad.
Any other equipment ideas? |

I had read the Verpine background. They seem to have two basic functions out of the community they have. The main one being technical adept. A secondary one is diplomat. Story wise they have a bad case of "oh shiny" with technology, and "can't we all get along" with social interaction. My idea was to have a template that could mix the two to one degree or another. |

Then its about skill selection and character background not equipment. At a minimum you will want to do some dice into Bureaucracy, Persuasion and pick a Technical skill(s) you want. Perhaps Computer Programming/Repair and Security. Maybe bump up Technical attribute and drop dice into a few Knowledge and Perception skills. You won't have a lot of choices with 7D at the start st your going to want to stick to a background concept and some keyv skills relating to your background. _________________ Don Diestler

I was looking at a generic template. I tend to craft most of my characters without a template, but then the equipment question is ambiguous. |

Okay when creating a character you must remember that even if you do not have a skill it defaults to the corresponding attribute. This is going to be key to your character concept and will effect your skill choices.
When creating a template remember that the skill lists are what general archetypes would have. Again not all of these skills obviously.
Something I noticed about the template you posted was an extremely low Knowledge and Max's out Perception and Technical. Verpine already get a skill bonus for Technical skills so the 4D+2 seems like monster overkill. Remember bureaucracy is going to be a key skill for you. Might consider planetary systems, intimidation or willpower. Again, only suggestions. Look forward to your posting when you have this created. Hopefully with a background, personality and not just a bunch of stats. _________________ Don Diestler

Sounds a little min-max for someone focusing on trying to push the diplomatic side of verpines.
Now since GG4, has the Verpines min/maxes as
Dex 1d+1/3d
Know 1d+1/3d
Mech 1d+2/3d+2
Per 1d+1/4d
Str 1d+1/3d and
Tech 2d/5d
i could see making a diplomatic focused template for them as having attribute breakdown as;
Dex 2d+2
Know 3d
Mech 2d+2
Per 3d+2
Str 2d+2
Tech 3d+1
That way even with the Verpine bonus, they still would get 5d+1 on any tech roll but are still not overwhelming pratically all other PCS in tech skills from the get go. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

Still imo pushing tech up to high if you are trying to be more focused on the diplomatic side of house. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

I wasn't trying to make pure diplomat, was trying to make a char that could go either way. The question is both attributes that help diplomats are maxed out. |

And here is why I hate this uber species. They are designed to be uber techies not only from their special abilities but from the attribute limits as well. This is why I have nerfed and rewritten significantly verpine in my games. _________________ Don Diestler

I think Knowledge as an attribute mainly for the skills such as Bureaucracy, cultures, languages, and Alien species are of more use to diplomats than just a high Perception. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |
