So it's body rating is in place of the Armor bonus?
What's its dex penalty? Practically all suits of armor giving more than 2d phys have some. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

That is correct and its speeder scale. Treat as cover.

I toyed around with this but since its pretty much a vehicle I decided not to bother with a DEX penalty. As a side point, when I designed this as power armor instead of mecha armor, it gave +2D vs energy and physical and a -1D Dex penalty. Yeah I know insanely powerful. I will post those stats for comparison though.

SO its a bigger, better badder and no penalized zero g suit of armor. If this exists, i see no reason why anyone would ever take any other suit if they can afford it. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

Are you cranky today? You have had nothing constructive to say about this or the Avatar Orbital Platform.
A number of things I will point out about both of these pieces of equipment is they are not very Star Warsish in feel. The mecha suit was meant to emulate more of the feel of anime style playing if you want that in your game. The powered armor was meant to be kinda kick@ss.
Do either of them fit in SWU? Probably not. Are there any good examples of either in WEG products? No not really. So when designing one you really need to make it up as you go. Which is why I posted them and asked for suggestions and constructive criticisms. _________________ Don Diestler

Overall, I think the effective 5D soak is more balanced than a suit of Armor which could be getting 6D or more. Also, the scale will make the person wearing the armor easier to hit by character scale weaponry.
I like it overall, but I'd definitely limit the availability on it. The original made not that it's very uncommon. Also, something like this would likely have a black market price hike, making the suit cost up to 5x the amount.
I'd also like to point out, that the stats presented by SWR did not include any kind of atmosphere, so this thing wouldn't be much use out in space, or in hostile environments. Those sorts of things would cost additional money and take time to modify the suit for it. He toned down the speed from the original suit as well, since the original suit was move+30, meaning a pilot could have a basic move of up to 42, instead of a static 30. I kind of see this as a pint sized walker suit, which just uses the powersuit operations interface.
All in all, it's not a bad write up, and I think it's definitely something that might get deployed against particularly dangerous player characters. A bounty hunter using the suit, a merc unit all equipped with it, Imperial Special Forces Assault, etc...
I know that garhkal usually is worried about things from a "What if my players get their hands on it" standpoint, whereas I'm of the "How freaked out would my players be if a whole team of these guys got sent after them." _________________ RR

cranky no. Just wondering why you would come up with something so souped up.

Where are you getting 5d vs 6d from? Normal armor is cha scale and at most has 4d phys or 3d energy protection. Most are going to be around 3d+2 or lower.
OR are you combining both the energy soak and phys soak values into one? _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

Um, you are aware that characters with armor bonus get their strength score added in.
3D Speeder scale soak would be 5D character scale versus a possible 4D Strength +2D which gives a 6D maximum for a human, that's not even including high strength races. That's where I'm getting my numbers from.
The suit that was proposed in the original post has a 3D Speeder scale hull, which means it's on equal footing with a blaster rifle or a heavy blaster pistol, what's so overpowering about that? The only advantage the armor gives is increased mobility and a large array of sensors and communications gear, all of which could be purchased separately for a much lower price tag. Also, with a mechanized suit, it will be far more susceptible to Ion attacks.
I'm not seeing how the suit is such an unreasonable vehicle when for the same price a player could buy an AT-PT, which has 2D Walker scale hull. The main hand held cannon (Which probably shouldn't be included in the price unless it's built into the suit) is barely a step up from a light repeating blaster. These are all common enough gear bits which are combined into a single suit, which also means that it's easier to remove as a GM, if the suit is impounded or destroyed. _________________ RR

Let's compare it to the AT-PT which is close in size at half the cost:
Quote: | Craft: All-Terrain Personal Transport
Type: Light walker
Scale: Walker
Length: 2.1 meters long, 3.1 meters tall
Skill: Walker operation: AT-PT
Crew: 1
Crew Skill: Missile weapons 4D, vehicle blasters 4D, walker
operation 4D
Cargo Capacity: 25 kilograms
Cover: Full
Cost: 15,000 (used)
Maneuverability: 2D
Move: 21; 60 kmh
Body Strength: 2D
Weapons:
Twin Blaster Cannon
Fire Arc: Front
Skill: Vehicle blasters
Fire Control: 1D
Range: 10-50/200/500
Damage: 4D
Concussion Grenade Launcher
Fire Arc: Front
Skill: Missile weapons: grenade launcher
Fire Control: 1D
Range: 10-50/100/200
Damage: 2D |
Tougher armor, more maneuverable, more firepower, and slightly less speed. At a used price tag of 15,000 credits, which is less than half. _________________ RR

But the person wearing the suit, would then add that 5d soak bonus into his str roll, just like the one wearing say storm trooper armor. Or is this gundam like suit, needing to get completely damaged before the one wearing it takes any? _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

That's where the full cover and body strength stats come into play. It's effectively a vehicle that just uses the powersuit operation skill.
You roll damage versus the suit, and then the operator would take appropriate damage based on passenger damage. Otherwise his stats would say +3D Speeder scale. _________________ RR

DING DING DING give that man a prize. This is of course if he is talking about the mecha version and not the battlesuit. _________________ Don Diestler

Do I win a free printed version of REUP?
Yes, that's true. The armored version seems a little more powerful than the vehicular version. I was noticing when I converted my own Power Armor suit to a Walker-Scale vehicle, that it actually became easier to destroy than a character scale heavily armored powersuit. Funny how that works... _________________ RR

Now i get it. Then 3d speeder scale is not out of whak.
Though would powersuit ops be the skill since it IS speeder scale? Or something else? _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

I would point out that Speeder scale is +/-2D vs Character not +/-3D.
I would stick with Power Suit Operation. It is certainly more appropriate than Repulsorlift Operations. It may be a vehicle, it may have a repsulsor field, but it is NOT a repuslor vehicle, doesn't even remotely operate the same way. It IS a power suit though. Just my thoughts YMMV. _________________ Don Diestler
