Capsule: The H-60 Tempest bomber was a flying wing-style bomber that was a predecessor of the B-wing starfighter.
The Tempest resembled a larger version of the later B-wing starfighter, but lacked its folding wings. There was also a different engine configuration than that of the B-wing, and other design variations, including a cockpit on each end which were detachable for maintenance and repairs.
The Spiral-class assault ship shared many design characteristics with the bomber, appearing to be almost the same design apart from being bigger and flying backwards in relation to the H-60's direction of flight.
The H-60 bomber was developed for the Republic Navy in the final decades of the Galactic Republic. Naval planners held a dislike for the resource-heavy and unusual twin-cockpit design and the bombers saw little use. Some were stored in Republic scrap yards to be used for spare parts. As the Galactic Empire came to power, bombers were sold off to independent parties in secret and saw some moderate success for several decades. _________________ Don Diestler

Since this is a bomber, perhaps the Concussion Missiles should be Capital-Scale. I long ago did the same with the concussion missiles on the Skipray Blastboat to give it a heavy anti-capital ship punch.
Also, while the Spiral and the H-60 have long been mistaken for eachother, this falls apart when you read the original description of the Spiral, which was essentially a boarding torpedo with a hull-penetrating nose cone. Whoever decided that the Spiral and the H-60 looked alike never bothered to read the description (apparently), so I would suggest leaving that out.
Apart from that, I like the stats. It may not be a ship I would use, but since it does exist, it would be a good addition to a Rebel campaign in the classic era, where older, less capable ships would be all that was available. _________________ "No set of rules can cover every situation. Why not go with torpedoes, then? Either those or bombs, and the bombs could take a penalty to Starship Gunnery due to the fact that they're dumb-fire. _________________ Don Diestler

Yeah, even the possibility of having a likely hit on a starship scale ship with a space bomb is a terrifying prospect. _________________ __________________________________
Before we take any of this too seriously, just remember that in the middle episode a little rubber puppet moves a spaceship with his mind. |

The reasoning I used with making the Skipray's Concussion Missiles Capital-Scale was that its lower damage (6D as opposed to the 9D for the Proton Torpedoes) made it more reasonable for a ship that size. A 9D torpedo would give a single Skipray enough punch to badly damage an Imperial Star Destroyer with a single shot (if used against an unshielded arc). 6D Capital Scale is more balanced, in that it can threaten smaller capital ships, but isn't too powerful.
Also, the description and the original stats state that it has a concussion missile launcher, and while I reject the argument for visual similarity between the Tempest and the Spiral, there is no evidence against the ship having concussion missile launchers as opposed to something else. _________________ "No set of rules can cover every situation. I'll admit that the majority of my conjecture about space combat comes from the space sims and X-Wing novels, so I see things a bit differently. Wouldn't it be plausible for a torp to cause heavy damage when striking an unshielded ship section? _________________ Don Diestler

Of course, but then there is the question of balance. Almost every published stat for proton torpedoes gives them a damage of 9D, regardless of their scale. If your stats followed that pattern, the H-60 would be able to inflict 9D Capital-scale damage with a single shot. When a 4-man, starfighter-scale starship can pack enough damage to badly damage a major capital ship all by itself, that is too much. Concussion missiles, on the other hand, have more variable damage (as low as 6D for the Skipray Blastboat). _________________ "No set of rules can cover every situation.
