How about this: They were abandoned by the Empire while on a mission. They were on the ground in the thick of combat and things got too hairy so the Empire pulled out, leaving them behind. Now they hate the Empire and will do anything possible to exact revenge. _________________ "Mind what you have learned. Save you it can." --Yoda

It could be that just one operation went bad. Maybe they were Imperial Storm Commandos on a secret op. The thing went bad and their drop ship was ordered back to base, leaving them for dead... _________________ "Mind what you have learned. Save you it can." --Yoda

I figure stormtroopers are clones. That is why they are so loyal. There are no exstormtroopers - it's not in the programming (genetic modification). Perhaps they could be ex-Imperial army or navy security troops? We've seen they are not clones. _________________ Know Jesus, Know Peace.

dude, people join the stormtroopers, they are given advanced military training... at least that's what the empire claims, really, i've read it in one of my star wars books... just can't remember which one... |

Yo! Don't forget Kyle Katarn was a Stormtrooper. He was trained on Corina in a phat Stormtrooper training facility. Every rimmer and his grandmothing is good with a heavy blaster pistol! Anyway, it's going to be hard to explain defection if the Stormtrooper is especially loyal to the empire. |

He seems a bit disgruntled too! It would have been funny if I had shot him off that rooftop. j/k although if he continues to be a disgruntled trooper with us we may have problems. |

if it's a military based game stick to it! Stormtrooper missions can offer a lot of skilled building possibilities. if not, stick to it untill you find the best opportunity to leave, both for skill building and the situation. the rebels is the best place for AWOL. they can use your skill and knowledge. |

it still is military based, the storm trooper just didn't seem to like the empire from the get go... i mean... i figured he could be semi-mature about his defection...
which didn't seem appropriate but what am i gonna do? brainwash my player? |

Most planets have to meet a recruiting quota so it's possible he was forced. I can see not liking being drafted. Yuck!
If he doesn't like the Empire, continiously reinforce the reasons why he doesn't like it. uncomfortable orders, killing of innocents, etc. that will make things easier to leave. |

In my campaign I assume the movies are correct and any expanded universe stuff (books, comics, etc) is a rumour - it may or may not be true. Only the director knows for sure. _________________ Know Jesus, Know Peace.
