Captain Len Temple's (a character I GM) Droid Sidekick R3-R5, the Impies don't bother to ask for a operators permit for a junker R5 like they do for a Military Grade R3, so old R3-R5 can hide in plane sight, even though Cpt. Len dose have a permit for his little buddy not all of his Aliases do. |
That is what I was thinking. Yeah the R5 isn't as 'good' as an other droid, but being sub par means few look closely. So, get a junk R5 and gut it and put in good parts to make it as good or better than the 'better' droid.
Kind of the opposite of DB's Jawa with no name option ... _________________ "And so I am become a knight of the Kingdom of Dreams and Shadows!" - Mark Twain

Poor old R3-R5 has bean through the wars, he's bean caught in equipment failures and battle damage, bean blasted by pirates and repaired with substandard parts. somewhere along the way he lost his head and it was replaced by an R5 head. especially since Len got his hands on him he's had factory spech or premium custom parts used on his maintenance, repairs and upgrades. but the transparent R3 Domes are hard to find and there is more room in a R5 head and folks only look at colors and heads not body panels when trying to ID an Astromech so until the R6 comes out years from game time from the Now the authorities will overlook what they think is just an R5 unit. |

My Character Yargin Ma'kol inherited the R5 along with the ship, because the former owner, Head of the Mercenary group Yargin joined, was a legendary cheapskate, and got an R5.
After one breakdown too many, the R5 was stripped down and rebuilt with more reliable parts.
the most radical change was the transfer of a new, female personality.
R5-2D, aka Toodie, she was renamed. |

That's funny, as our crew did the same thing with the servant droid on their ship (used to belong to the noble, who is no longer alive). As a joke, one of the PCs switched out his male voice for a female one. _________________ Currently Running: Villains & Vigilantes (a 32-year-old campaign with multiple groups) and D6 Star Wars; mostly on hiatus are Adventures in Middle-earth and Delta Green |
