If a thermal detonator went off in a light freighter, would it do massive internal danage or actually blow up the whole ship? |

"The result of the explosion was an expanding particle field that atomize any material that does not conduct heat or thermal energy within the fixed blast radius (typically 5-6 meters, though some had an even greater radius). Unlike other grenades, a thermal detonator's blast would only go as far as its blast radius. After that, the blast field would collapse, and anything even slightly beyond the blast radius would be left unharmed."
From this description I would say that if a thermal detonator went off in a ship, be prepared to have a 5-6 meters in radius or 10-12 meters in circumference that is atomized, gone, blooey, zoinks, nada, kaputzski. _________________ Don Diestler

Roll 10d vs the hull MINUS 2d as there is no particle shielding inside the ship, + scale.
So taking a standard Ghtroc 720 freighter 3d+2 hull, add 6d for scale, then take off 2d for no particle shields, for a 7d+2 soak vs 10d damage. I'd say heavy damage or severely damaged and the area is toast. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

Part of my ships history, she was raided by pirates and severly damaged, but she later got salvaged and rebuilt, with some YT series parts thrown into the mix, thanks to the compatability the 3-Z has, the first question i asked on this forum. A lot of the parts were salvaged off a YT-1760, so she's certainly no Stock model. |

Particle shields are the shields on a ship that block physical debris (like asteroids and missiles). Per RAW they are part of the Hull code on a star ship. All ships are stipulated to have them. When they are deactivated, you are supposed to remove 2D from the ship's hull.
Since there aren't any particle shields inside a ship, then anything hurting the ship from the inside would do damage against the Hull-2D. _________________ "I still wouldn't have a roll for it - but that's just how I roll." |

Exactly. Which is why getting explosives inside a ship is more damaging than using the same ones outside. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

Nope. Shield dice do not count against missiles and torpedoes. _________________ "I still wouldn't have a roll for it - but that's just how I roll." |

Since when? There are plenty of EU examples to the contrary. _________________ "No set of rules can cover every situation. It's expected that you will make up new rules to suit the needs of your game." - The Star Wars Roleplaying Game, 2R&E, pg. 69, WEG, 1996.
