I don't know of anyone who runs their D6 chases, particularly ground vehicle chases, using combat rounds. I certainly never have. However, when not using rounds, sometimes I've had players get irritated when I restrict their actions to ONE action each, with the exception of the pilot who I allow to preform one action plus any actions involving operating the vehicle (within reason)... and I still apply MAPs.

I feel that not only does running chases in rounds suck some of the dynamic feel out of a chase, but with vehicle's massive move speeds, it makes it impractical too.

I thought I'd pop on here and ask the vast gathering of D6 minds to pitch in their two credits. Do you use rounds or scenes for your chases? If you use scenes, what do you allow each player to do within their turn? If you use rounds, how do you deal with movement, when it could reach upwards of 600 or 700 (All-out movement for a speeder bike)?

Well, thinking about it, I guess we use "fudged-rounds" in a chase scene, sort of like "scene-rounds". It still uses the same mechanics od normal rounds, but it's supposed to be a more interspersed thing. Sort of like a round here, then a small scene, then 2 more rounds, etc....

I've done both. Usually I start a chase out in rounds until it reaches the point that the result is pretty obvious, then just describe the scene. My GM just ran a similar scene two weeks ago. It's described in the adventure forum, but basically the characters who wanted to act could do something each round, the chaser continued about 5 rounds until I managed to take out the gun on the car behind us, and the imperials showed up. Then the GM just described the scene until we stopped the car and interacted with the imperials.

I usually say something like "no initiative, you're out of rounds" to let the players know they don't have to interact round by round anymore.

In a good chase I often bounce between rounds and scenes many times, using whichever best suites the feel of a particular moment. Scenes for the dangerous pursuit as the vehicles careen around corners, narrowly avoiding bystanders, buildings, and other traffic...rounds as they pull side by side and the occupants exchange blows. I often call for random Dexterity rolls of ocupants and passengers as the vehicles swerve wildly, to see if they can maintain balance or ready weapons (we've had many a dropped grenade in a friendly vehicle). I try to keep it dynamic, yet interesting. Anyone not immediately able to engage in a combat round I deal with through scenes, and vice versa. I think every GM has to find what works for them.

Also, i feel that a lot of gms, forget to apply maps properly. 1 action for the move (if they are only doing 1 move action), 1 for any dodges etc. Many time they say the person is going all out, and still have them dodge, or something similar...

I, for one, haven't had any problems like that. I like the fact that preforming a Full defensive action is the only action a character can preform in that round... it makes that option more balanced.

I run chase scenes in rounds, although my "round" may be anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes.
