Something that I've been using for a while and I realized that it was actually different in the RAW. So when ever my players want to pick up any advanced skills (medicine, engineering, ect) at play start, provided they have the prerequisites, I let them. But instead of it just costing just a skill point or two, it costs an attribute point. To learn an advanced skill it costs 10 character points instead of the normal 2 character points, and for improving the advanced skill its just RAW. I find this makes the skills more rare and if a player wants to go into a specific advanced skill he tends to just pick one or two. I do try and counterbalance this by giving more opportunities to use the advanced skills. What are your thoughts on this matter? |

Sort of like how gaining the first D in a force skill takes one of your attribute dice..
I like it.
DO they also take a credit debt showing their learning the skill? _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

I assume credit debt you mean them paying to learn the skill? Or do you mean go into character point debt to pay off the skill? |

Paying to learn it. Much like starting characters and ships. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

Never really used that method, I figure as long as the player has the necessary skills (the prerequisites) and can find a trainer (if he learns it post game) I don't really charge them credits for it. The trick is finding the trainer or a method of learning it, which in of it self would probably charge or ask a favor or two. |

I just looked and the book has no cost (credits) associated with learning an (A) skill, but i have played in so many games where it has been done, i guess i assumed it was the BTB rule...
Most groups have it where it cost between 5000-10000 credits depending on what the advance skill being learned was. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |
